Let's take a look at our last attempt to outlaw a dangerous drug: Alcohol. The 18th Amendment banned the sale, distribution and manufacture of alcohol in the US.
The Mafia stepped-in and I think we all know the 13 years until the repeal of prohibition in 1933 gave rise to Mafia fueled criminal wars over the control of lucrative smuggling routes from countries such as Canada, Mexico and Cuba. Alcohol was smuggled into the US and sold illegally (but as was public knowledge) in underground bars.
The mafia left the alcohol smuggling business as soon as booze was legal again. Today, very few people create "home-brew". It's a niche market and hobby. I mean, who's going to go through all the trouble to make beer when you can to the corner store and grab a 12 pack which has consistent flavor and quality? Almost nobody. Same goes for weed. Why bother trying to grow it and make it decent when one could simply grab a pack of pre-rolled marijuana cigs in a 20 pack with consistent quality and THC level?
In fact, legalizing weed would simply provide new markets for the cig companies and plenty of revenue for the government.
What's the most dangerous drug in the US? Tobacco, followed by alcohol. Neither has any accepted medical use. Marijuana is much safer (and if ingested instead of smoked has no negative side-effects) has fewer drawbacks. It's also prescribed by medical doctors for a variety of ailments and illnesses.
Stop the madness, free the people jailed, give treatment to the addicts, save money and free up the police and our criminal justice system to combat real crime and criminals.

That's ludicrous. Why do people keep comparing the 1920's alcohol ban to modern day weed? There is NOTHING similar in any way, on any level.
THC levels? You don't think that people won't be mixing and working up higher concentrations like they've been doing for a long time now? Ever smoke Sensimilla? And since when is dropping some seed in soil and adding water equating to all the work it takes to make alcohol?
Get real dude. -
Other than the time and patience it takes to take clones from your mother plant, set them in starter cubes, transfer to larger pots with prepared soil, manicure the dead leaves, switch from 18+hrs to 12 hrs sun(light), and finally hang and dry your finished product, I guess is nothing compared to soaking corn mash in water for a week, adding yeast, boiling it, and finally sending through a cooled coil into awaiting mason jars. Now "thats" hard work? Get real DUDE? I've done both and growing is way more labor intensive, DUDE.

I call BS. Back in the "day" we grew windowbox stuff just fine with no effort. Yeah, they can make a science of it, but it can be easier than tomatoes too. Getting popped for a plant was what got me straight 22 years ago. No drugs, booze, or even cigarettes since.
Nice to have a clear head as well. -
I don't recall saying anything about Mexico's education system being superior to the US.
All I know is my step kids excel in their studies, and some of the subjects are beyond my comprehension, and yes, I do have a Bachelors Degree for all the good it's ever done me.
Difference is in Mexico, they maintain discipline in the schools. The kids have inborn respect for the teachers and for that matter, most adults, and the kids go to class to learn, not to socialize and play.
When was the last time you heard of a US student being sent home for a haircut, or because their shoes didn't have a shine, or suspended for three days for having their shirt tail out of their pants? And the parents approving of the punishment instead of trying to sue the school because of perceived discrimination against little Sue or Bobby. -
Then explain the "Gansta mentality" the kids of illegals seem so proud of....Mouthing-off...tagging....Gang violence.....
None of the aforementioned are American pastimes...they didn't originate from here... -
Once again, you're assuming all the kids with the "gangsta'" mentality are children of illegals.
Simply being Hispanic does not mean they or their parents are illegal, at least not in the real world.
The "Gangsta'" mentality is indeed pure Americano. Blacks in the hoods. Italians, Irish, name a nationality and you'll find a gang.
Puerto Ricans in New York? Hey, they're Americans also!
I'm in Toledo tonight and the thugs running around here on Stickney Ave and the tags on the buildings are pure African American or whatever they call themselves these days -
I guess I'm from a different place and time....
I grew up in Huntington Beach....There were no gangs....No tagging....everybody got along....
The gangs were in East L.a., South Central L.A., and Santa Ana....
But that was in the late 60's through the 70's.....
But most of the Hispanic gangs are the extensions of the Mexican drug cartels....
The Hispanic gangs are the only ones who don't discriminate...If you're in the way...oh well...they cal you a "Mushroom"....and shoot through you to get to the intended victim......
It became so bad a few years back that part of the initiation to get into a gang....the potential gang-banger had to shoot a cop....
