Hi,
I was suppose to start training on the 7th. They were going to pay for the hotel while I am in training. Today they called and told me they will no longer offer free hotel rooms for their training school.
I live about an hour from there. They asked me if I can drive to and from every day for 22 days of training. I am wondering if they are just telling me this because they know I am close and I can drive there and will save them money in hotel cost or this is a new thing with KLLM.
Has anyone else heard about this?
Thanks for any feedback.

highly possible it IS true, or you heard it wrong when you were told that due to indeed your closeness, they will not pay for you to stay. .
i mean, 44 miles each day is a cake walk, when i had to commute 70 miles to and from to work 5 nights a week.bryan21384 Thanks this. -
Either find another carrier to start out/train with -- OR.....
MAKE #### SURE you have incredibly reliable transportation (& ditto for your bedside alarm clock) during your training period.
Suggestion: CDL jobs for total rookies are tough to come by, of late. If you still have a job waiting for you with this carrier -- try to keep it (for AT LEAST 12 months; longer is even better).

They litteraly told me they just recieved an email from managment that they will no longer provide hotels for students and even they don't know what will happen next. I have no problem with driving there every day. I drive around 300 miles on an average day and been doing it for 20 years. But if it is because I am close, then they should just tell me that. That is my whole point. I was planing to sell my car before leaving for school. Now I have to wait until the school is over and hope there is enough time between end of school and OTR training so that I can sell the car.
By the way, their training is 6 days, just FYI... -
I am about an hour away from the school which is no problem if I have to drive there every day.Chinatown Thanks this.

What training is 6 days?

Hiring is tightening for now. Many drivers are jumping to refrigerated trucking because it's reliable for truck drivers. Now that refrigerated trucking can be more selective about drivers they hire, maybe that's the reason for no hotel at KLLM.
If you can, stick with KLLM because it's a good company to get started with. With refrigerated experience you'll always have a decent trucking job.bryan21384, aussiejosh, Flat Earth Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
Follow-up: to "build" on what was said above/earlier.....as I write this -- the current job market for CDL holders with less than 12 months experience is......(edited for content):
