How do violations work? Like if the employer find out what had happen do I lose the DOT card and employment?
-
I'm not sure. When I messed up the safety department where I worked caught it & sent me back to Dr to get it fixed before it was submitted to the DOT REGISTRY
ducnut and Gamechangerzz Thank this. -

The app is insufficient. They need a hard copy, which goes into your medical records, at the DOT doc’s office. This supports his decision you’re in good health to hold a CDL.
You don’t lose your CDL. If you’re found to be in violation, by anyone along the way, your medical card is revoked, which causes your CDL to be suspended, and you’re notified, by letter, from your state’s DMV. Then, you’ll have to get your medical card sorted, make an appointment with the DMV, then, go to your DMV to get it resolved. This could easily take weeks and is a huge PITA. This is the same process, should you let your medical card expire, before getting another DOT physical. It’s very important to stay ahead of the expiration, so you don’t have to go through any of this.Gamechangerzz Thanks this. -
Ok so who exactly puts me in violation? Employer? Safety dept? Local Law enforcement? DOT officer? I’m a bit confused with that part.

Ok late to thread, drivers have lied for years on medical cards . Company can complain say if you get sick and miss too much work can have you retake physical.
I would be more worried about the what if WRECK happens and you get investigated. If sleep issues become part of investigation not having it documented could screw you
I would go back redo your physical with the CPAP info on there. Ask the physical place what information they will need from you before you go. As mentioned usage report or doctor letter but yeah I would document that your using the CPAP machineducnut Thanks this. -
The CDL system does. There’s an interface between all the involved agencies that cross-reference one another. I don’t exactly know how it works. However, if things don’t line up, your state’s DMV will receive a red flag, suspend your CDL, and will send you notification with info as to what you’re in violation of and what you need to do. The clearinghouse and your employer will receive it, too.
I went through this process, during a state-to-state change of residency. Because my medical card expired during my move, which took me a month to figure out what the heck I was going to do (I was homeless), my CDL was suspended. My former state mailed a letter to my former address. I called my new state’s DMV, reached an exceptionally nice and knowledgeable woman, and explained what my situation was. She put a note in the system. Then, I went to getting myself squared away. I already had a job lined up, even without a valid CDL. I got a place to live, to establish a permanent address. I used my old CDL to go get a DOT exam, under my old address, and with full disclosure to the doc about my situation. Next day, I went to the DMV with my old CDL, proof of new residency, and new medical card. The clerk saw the notes the other DMV clerk had put into the system and got me lined out with a current and valid CDL. Lastly, I went back up the street to the DOT doc, he burned a copy of my new CDL, entered all my new info into the DOT’s system, and issued me an updated medical card and long form. All this got me legit, with everyone. The reason why I explained all this is to, hopefully, reinforce what a pain it is to go through having one’s CDL suspended. It could’ve been way worse, if people weren’t so good to me. I profusely thanked all them, along the way. -
Ye I’m definitely using it, I need to, it helps A LOT.

I wouldn't worry about it for the next two years until when you are due for another card.
Gamechangerzz and tarmadilo Thank this.
