Rollover,
I have read many of your posts, and I have to say you hit the nail on the head 100 percent of the time. I hope that you advice is taken to heart by many of the new driver about to enter, or new to the industry. Its a shame the the information you put out isn't put out by the many companies and truck schools out there. I know we can all tell stories of young drivers on their first trip, asking the kind of questions we thought everyone knew the answers to. Scaling, permits, how to get a shower coupon, what a trip pack box looks like. Maybe there needs to be a big book on it all, but I want to say THANKS to you because you are giving the answers before the questions are asked, and you are helping alot of folks.
Safe miles to you,
Larry

Thanks to all you drivers who posted to this thread. I had a list of my own but there were a few things that I did not think about. Special thanks to Rollover for the list that is almost an exact match to mine and for mentioning the EXTRA pair of glasses and sunglasses. Believe it or not some of newbies actually have some common sense and realize we are not moving into a condo.

I have a large duffle type bag with rollers. Is that too big? Also what about my own DC/AC power strip (the type that is a car converter, lighter plug in)?
One other thing, I am a big guy. I worry about my training with a driver. Does anyone think there will be any problems? -
Hi Chef, You probably won't have room for a super large duffle, I took a small duffle with the bare neccesities. one that could fit under the lower bunk. Any power strip that you would need, your trainer will prabably have. My trainer had a TV and stuff already in use. If you have sleep apnea, they will should put you with a trainer that has it also, that way his truck will already be set up for the machine.
Both my first trainer and I were pretty big, I am 6'2" 240# and he was about 6' and clocked in at about 350-375# and we had no problems.
Hope this helps.chefplr and Saddle Tramp Thank this. -

Actually I travel light. I am not a youngster here and a bit more mature than the average newbie. And no I won't eat the trainer. I really am a chef and don't like people cooked unless there is plenty of cooking time and fires are not allowed in the cab. I don't eat that much in reality. I am more worried about space. I have read much of the advice here and plan on being very reasonable about this.
Also regarding the power strip I did not want to take up the trainers outlet space. -
Another question I have is regarding laptops. I do not know if I am going to take mine especially on my training run but this is for when I go solo. Where does everyone get online? Are most Truck Stops or terminals wired for wifi? Are the trucks that are linked with the qualcomm system? Or do most of you have wireless computer conections that act like cellphones?

My roller duffel is the size of a carry on and it fit nicely in the upper bunk. So it is up too you to decide what you want to take; remember take enough clothes for a week. The washers and dryers are about $2.00 each to run.
KHwolfen Thanks this. -

I have an air card from Sprint to use when I go out. I packed my bags last night I fit everything except my sleeping bag and pillow into a med size duffel bag and a normal size backpack. I was going to take my laptop bag to but instead my backpack is going to double as a laptop bag. I figure I can just leave the laptop in the truck when I go to shower.
