    Hello,

I am curious how the process works if you run under another companies authority.

I have been reading that you may just need bobtail insurance and the company will charge you some amount of money per week to use their insurance. Is this correct?

Does anyone have experience going this route?

    Thank you

Different places have different schemes. With me, which is most common. You only pay non trucking liability (bobtail) which you provide yourself thru your insurance agent.

    Thank for the reply.

Maybe you can help with this question . If I was to buy a used truck can I get it registered with bobtail insurance if I only want to run under another authority. I am hearing some states won't approve your truck without full insurance. Thanks

You’ll need to have a COI from the carrier you leased to.

You don’t want bobtail insurance, get “non trucking liability insurance

When getting your trucks tag you forward the state IRP office the company your leased onto their insurance.

They’re similar but, there’s definitely a difference between the two.

Progressive wouldn’t even issue bobtail for me, had to be non trucking liability.

Maybe bobtail would be okay for the power only o/o..

Bobtail the general term for non trucking liability. I know this because I currently have progressive as well. What progressive does with the term bobtail is up to them. But in general insurance terms bobtail is non trucking liability. Unless said is insuring a trailer.

With bobtail insurance you aren’t covered when hooked to a trailer..it’s all on the carrier even if you aren’t under dispatch.
With non trucking liability I can be hooked to a trailer empty rolling on personal time and be insured without it being on the carrier.

Just scroll down past the sales pitch.
