Ya know, I've read plenty of forum posts about the image the public has of drivers. I don't agree with all the posts, I think that sometimes drivers have a bad image of drivers. Those who project a good image of the profession have little use for those drivers that don't. CSA 2010 will, in my opinion, and then only if it succeeds in weeding out the "worst of the worst", raise the image the public has of drivers. My older sister just moved back to the lower 48 from Alaska. She and her husband had been up there for about 5 years. I was talking to my sister the other day about my plans to drive for a commercial carrier. She said she had noticed, in just the short time they had been back home, that she hadn't had a big rig blast up behind her on the interstate or blow by her doing 10+ mph above the speed limit. Maybe the times they are achangin'!

I noticed about 400 to 500 times per day the Four wheelers passing me going 10 MPH over the speed limit!

There is some truth to that...I myself am guilty of it.

As a driver though...I can see the things that the public don't often notice.

Sloppy work, improperly secured loads, laziness...etc. I pull flat beds and its downright scary some of the things I see...And yes, I'm talking about load securement (and Maverick didn't make me this way...I've ALWAYS been this way)

When I see those things I can't help but put a stereotype on it...and that stereotype is either a lazy, good for nothing, know it all, super trucker wannabe...or somebody who just doesn't know any better (never been trained or had it explained to him the physics of load shifts)

And I can usually tell the difference just by watching the driver...

I know...its wrong but i can't help it (stereotyping), but if we're gonna improve our image...we ALL have to participate.

Like the old saying goes about 1 bad apple....

FMCSA continues to update this Q and A about CSA 2010. It has grown from, I think, less than 30 Qs and As to about 90. It's a good quick read and just might tell you most of what is important. :biggrin_25514:

Do you think that carriers are doing some advance "house cleaning"? Seems to me that more and more we see a driver coming on the forum with a "my carrier done me wrong" song. Drivers are not going to be fired by FMCSA or CSA 2010 or even the DOT for that matter (at least, not yet!). FMCSA has put the burden on carriers to get rid of the "worst of the worst" drivers.

Well, that wasn't easy. LOL! As much as I wanted to pick, get rid of the worst of worst, I just HAD to choose my carrier preaches safety! There's nothing wrong with that though. We all need to be reminded once in awhile to avoid complacency, no matter how long we've been doing it. ;)

I am not yet a student, but hope to be soon as long as I can get the SNAFU's ironed out. I have seen the term CSA 2010 used here in the forums a time or two but am not familiar with what it is.

Is this the program that will give a driver X amount of points and for each violation (traffic citation, inspection violation, accident, etc) the driver loses X amount of points. Once the driver is at zero points, their CDL is yanked?

I heard someone talking about this but not sure if it is the CSA 2010 or not.

So far, no one has admitted that they, personally, are in trouble. That's great!
