I have an extra cobra 19 laying around the house that I was gonna put in my pickup (went with the 29 instead) and now Im thinking about making it into a base station. How would I go about getting power to it since I wont be hooking up to a 12v battery? Anyone done this or have any pointers?

This is a very common practice with CB hobbyists. You will need to convert the the AC voltage from your wall socket to DC voltage to use the radio. These are commonly called a 12 volt power supply.Make sure you use a regulated supply rated for at least 3 amperes and with an antenna with coax, you should be good to go.

You can buy a 120 VAC to 12VDC converter/transformer at Radio Shack and Sparkys. Don't forget you'll also need a good base station antenna like an Imax 2000 or an Antron 99.
