I know on the older leafs they did not have a thermal protection on the batteries which caused faster degradation. I am not sure on the new ones but would suggest researching it.
Most Electric cars still cost more to charge than to fill up with gas

Are you looking as strictly a commuter?
Would you have an alternative for road trips?
Your situation is different than mine. I would find the 150 mile radius of the base model to restrictive. I would not be able to do a round trip to either Portland or Seattle, I live between them. For me the 200 mile range allows me to make those as a round trip. Just something to consider while finalizing your decision.BennysPennys Thanks this. -
That is something to think about.
Don’t see that many 1st generation Toyota Prius cars on the road nowadays because lo and behold, the battery packs need to be replaced and they’re prohibitively expensive!
And that was a mass market hybrid. Can you imagine how much it will cost for a full grown EV when those battery packs have to be replaced in one of those? -
Look up greenbean they are mostly under 2k with lifetime warranty. Lots of 15 year old cars need a 2k repair. Honestly most 15-20 year old cars are done.

Strictly commuting. I literally drive 10 miles to work, drive 500 miles round trip in the work truck, and 10 miles back home, 5 times a week.
And yes I have a r.I.c.e. Vehicle for longer trips. Because they take 5 minutes to fill with a potty break.
At my turnaround location there are 2 EV chargers that always have a line. Most times I can spend an hour unloading and loading while the same vehicles are still charging. I don’t have the patience for that. I like to drive.Blu_Ogre Thanks this. -
how much did the home charging station all in and installed set you back and estimated life of the unit?

Looks like the price may have come down a bit thought it was $700 or so

I did the outlet outside. Under $50 in materials. Would have been less than a half day labor for a competent electrician including drive time.BennysPennys Thanks this. -
The 1st generation Prius is now 25 years old and up(1997),which means most of their batteries are past their shelf life! I wouldn’t expect Toyota to keep spares around for that old of a model.

I read something recently that Texas is charging a $400 fee when purchasing an electeic vehicle and an additional $200 every year there after.

I own 4 vehicles... 2 of those 4 vehicles are daily drivers, 3 of the 4 range from 26 to 51 years old. All of them can be 100% operational in less than 24 hours if needed. The oldest, a '72 F-250, can sit in a field for a decade... Then fire right up and drive away with a can of carb cleaner, a new battery, oil change, air in the tires, and a tank of fresh fuel... I dont thing a single vehicle made since 2010 could sit outside for a decade and still function.BennysPennys, JoeyJunk and LoneRanger Thank this.
