Go to a local tech school if you have them in your area. Cheaper, and possibly better training. I went to TN Tech and the WIA paid my entire tuition. Plus my school was 218 hours. I came out with a PTDI certification. Crete likes that, they pay better than Swift.
I am traing with Swift right now. My work history kept me out of Crete.
BTW many companies are looking at BMI. Body mass index. Prime does for sure.
thinking about starting with swift

Good thing about Swift school is that the tuition is interest free. AND, if you choose to drive for them, after a period of time, you are reimbursed.

This is from Swift Millington catalog 1/2010.
The 21 y/o guy who checked with Swift. They hire at 21 if served or active in military. Otherwise it is 23.
The loan is repayed at $300 a month $75 a week for 13 months
reimbursment is $150 a month, $37.50 a week for 26 months.
This starts when assigned as solo. this will end if you transfer out of company driver status. So stay company and school will be free after 26 months.
The catch is it is your responsibility to make sure loan dept. starts the reimbursement.
I am waiting for academy date now.
Hope this helps you guys out and good luck. -
Question again. Do you get to choose where you take your orientation? And your home terminal?
-
As far as I know, it depends on your location.

One thing for sure they are hiring big time right now. Not enough trainers to go around.JustSonny Thanks this. -
Finally got into a private cdl school through WIA in May after 2 months of waiting for the system. Graduated in June and have been looking everywhere without any results. I am finally going to Swift orientation in Columbus on 8/16. Can't wait to get this job rollin'.

Really starting to see decent money. I am still # .28 a mile. August 10th is my 6 months. I go to .32. The miles are there. I don't pester my DM much. I do crank the East Coast planners when they try to send me short runs out of my comfort zone.
For the first time I was late geting home for my requested time. Wanted to be out 18. It ended up being 21.
