If you’re talking direct delivery to the mailbox ,then there might be concerns there. But the USPS has been brokering mail for DECADES,pretty much since deregulation.

I can , well I really can't , understand how putting a load of first class mail up on a "load board" works. I know FedEx hauls loads of mail, but to allow any tom dick or harry to haul mail, I don't see it. I

Now, if you (mjd) know how this works, I will sit at your feet and learn.

Like almost every thing else government wise the mail is contracted out. When I worked at AA Cargo numerous airlines have/had contracts with USPS to ship mail as belly freight or on the upper deck, depending on the company involved (UPS,FedEx naturally have full freighter aircraft, whereas airlines like United, Delta,American, etc. put it in the cargo hold underneath). However, during the pandemic to offset the losses, during which most carriers were shut down, some aircraft were converted from passenger to freighter by removing the seats and luggage overhead bins to accommodate more cargo, mail notwithstanding. As I said before, this is nothing new. As something like this has been ongoing, actually before deregulation. I’d actually be more concerned about Amazon delivering the mail than anyone else, since they like to crash into to everything they see.

(I wasn’t always a truck driver-had a former life as an airline cargo agent so handling such loads was part of the job, along with live animals and hazmat.;))

Years ago, even before "deregulation", driving for Trailways, we hauled mail, but it was not 2000 or 3000 miles. Driving out of Norfolk, Va, we would have bags of mail for Elizabeth City, Hertford, Edenton and on to Washington NC. But we did not enter a postal hub, always dropping the bags off at the bus stations and the local post office would pick it up there.

Let me give you a good example. Springfield, Ma to Dallas, Tx First Class mail. Departure time 8:30am, arrival time in Dallas, tx 7:15pm next day. No frigging way that a solo driver can do it in less than 53 hrs, if he can in that time. Team operation, I highly doubt it. there are very few freight haulers running teams today. and especially 0/0s. Again, I go back on security clearance. Is the Post Office going to give a load of first class mail to a driver or a team without them being fingerprinted and FBI runs a background check??

i see this as state to state hauling from one turnkey ops center to the next.

that'll be on the long haul side of things,

then i see hauling from turnkey ops center to the neighborhood offices, for distribution from there to the homes businesses.

actually, this has been going on for decades.

all one has to do is go to any turnkey ops center and you will see dozens of contracting companies line up at the docks.

i know, i worked for the postal service back in the late 1990's.

i think the postal service wants to cut down on thier expenses, like having thier own trucks, then fuel, then instance, then payroll.

some postal truck drivers get paid as good as UPS tractor-trailer drivers do

I’ve hauled bulk/junk mail and also regular mail. I’ve also hauled roll on totes of packages that required tracking on my phone.
