Well, poor people aren't going to invest in Lahaina. People and companies with money can rebuild and modernize the town.
The old town is gone and will never return.Flat Earth Trucker and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
Feel bad for the people that lost their homes. Then probably have big hedge funds come in and make it unaffordable for them to return.
ducnut and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
My wife and I went there on our honeymoon back in 2010 and again last year. We had a blast. Front Street had a lot of shops to look at. Maui as a whole has been under an exceptional drought for some time. I would’ve expected a volcanic eruption to destroy the town, not a wildfire. Never mind the high death toll!
Flat Earth Trucker, Chinatown and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
In deadly Maui wildfires, communication failed. Chaos overtook Lahaina along with the flames
Power and cellular outages. Roadblocks creating bottlenecks. Officials not commenting on why there were no warning sirens. Native Hawaiians being pushed off their lands.
Nope. Nothing to see here.Last edited: Aug 13, 2023

Hawaii Gov. Josh Green claimed Sunday that global warming played a major role in the Maui wildfire that destroyed a historic town and has so far killed at least 93 people.

That whole party is just getting started.
Lawsuit filed yesterday against the power company for failure to shut off lines during the storm which caused the fire.
Locals are beyond angry. They believe they were done dirty for the whole event.
So many things don’t add up.
Police closing roads to bottleneck travel to a single narrow road that got hundreds killed.
Fires so hot they incinerated bodies.
Communication blackout.
Emergency supplies declined by FEMA.
The coconut network (local version of the neighbors network) is getting info out that’s pretty scathing to local state and federal officials.
Heads will roll if truth supports the current info.drvrtech77, AModelCat, Sons Hero and 3 others Thank this.
