Not even swift has that many trucks lol.
Covenant has on average 2500 trucks and 3000 drivers.
This is going by DOT numbers.

RFID chips have been in tires for several years now, on POV vehicles also go to www.goodyearRFID.com real eye opener. Uncle sam has RFID chips in wally world bar code scans now also, why? Oh ???? They say it is to track back to your credit card to more efficienty know what you (joe consumer) like to purchase so they can stock thier shelves. www.walmartRFID.com I kid you not. Big brother is here people. He wants to know where you drive what you eat, when you sleep, what you watch, hence all digital TV. Wake up America and smell the Government.

    Hey :
If all this chip thing is true ,Maybe this is why so many people liter at Wally World. I mean their parking lots are really a mess.
They must be trying to get rid of that chip...
I remember back when they said I had to get front brakes on my 1973 freightliner. Cabover....
I ignored that and never did get those brakes put on it .
Even back in the 80s we were told of Balck Boxes that we would have to put in our trucks. Never did it.
Some of this may be true for company owned and driver driven trucks. But , I see it as being very hard to force an O/O or independant to comply with any of this.
I still say we all need to tell Osama and the rest {EPA}etc, to take a hike.
I am at the point where it appears that if they really want highway saftey then they can force car and pickup truck {all} drivers of all vehechles to take a drug test, and some random test as well.
DOT physical the whole 9 yards.. Make me a bet that we would see instant results in less traffic deaths and instant results in accidents.

Next > enforce the law requiring all Fuel surchages to be paid directly to the owner of the truck. And actual shipping bills must be shown to the truck owner. With all freight charges listed. and set regulated % of broker fees.
Eliminate any and all ways of putting the screws to the truck owners and we really would not have such a big problem out here.
The money is there, we just don't get to see it anymore. :biggrin_25510:

I am thankful that I came across this forum!! So many questions and comments... so little time.

My husband has heard that this is going to go off a drivers health as well. All drivers who are overweight, Type 2 diabetic (not insulin dependent), have heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea etc. are going to be disqualified from driving a semi regardless of whether or not they are receiving treatment and have it under control.

Surely, this is not the case. My husband is overweight (right along with the majority of other drivers), has HBP, type 2 diabetes and heart disease (all of which are under control) The thought that he will lose his job in July has him stressed (to say the least) since he has been a truck driver for 20 years and knows no other way of supporting our family. I'm sure that the stress of all this has thrown his health out of whack.

Can someone please tell me if this is accurate or point me in a direction where I can find out? The CSA2010 website is very, VERY vague on the specifics of this. I'm sure that is no accident.

    If this is true,
my next question is... Is it just applying to Class A CDL's or does this also apply to Class B and school bus drivers? If the government is concerned about safety risks, I would like to know that they are equally concerned about the people who transport my children to and from school and school events.

One other thing... in response to "
Some one made the comment that if you happen to get a nail in your tire you will be pulled over and this will affect your CDL, yes it will but how many times has this happen to you. In the last 31 years it has happen to me one time when I pulled into a scale with a flat."

Sure.. that particular scenario may not happen very often. That is a needle in the haystack example. However, how many times have you done your pre-trip report where everything checked out and get down the road only to find out that some of the lights on your trailer have gone out? How many times have you been tooling along the road only to have someone, who refuses to follow behind a semi!, cut you off and then hit their brakes because they need to get onto an exit ramp before they miss it? My point is, let's not grasp at straws here-- Not EVERYTHING can be controlled by the truck driver,or any other license holding person for that matter. Let's face it.. things happen and not always because the driver was lazy, irresponsible or unsafe. :biggrin_25521:

Take a look at the TV ads, CSX is advertising cleaner air, safer uncongested highways by eliminating ---- TRUCKS----. This whole program and all others that are going to come up are intended to increase rail freight, and reduce trucks, period.
As far as what a driver is liable for, the answer is EVERYTHING. When I worked at greyhound, we were asked these questions: Did you wake up with the intent to come to work? Did you put on your uniform and go to work? Then you are guilty of whatever happens out there, good or bad, just because you showed up. Like it or not. It's not only CSA2010 you need to worry about, it's the purging of drivers that is happenning by companies that consider certain drivers as liabilities, not assets.
    Welome to the NEW AMERICA.

I laugh every time I hear that commercial. Putting the freight on rails does NOT remove trucks from the road, it only concentrates more trucks in the cities where the freight ends up. As far as I know, trains cannot jump the tracks and provide door-to-door service to retail establishments.

    CSX is smoking crack.

They may be smoking crack, but what they are trying to do is misinform the public about trucks. Maybe we should have a central yard where all the freight comes in, and then have all the people go there and stand in long lines to get what they need. There was a system like that once I heard, in RUSSIA,communist Russia that is.
People are like chickens, throw the "feed" and they follow.:biggrin_2554:.
