Curious if any of you are struggling to find decent paying work through typical means (ie dat board, etc)
Based out of the DFW Texas area and I've not ever seen freight so dry so I'm getting ready to leave this market, so whats out there?

    Much appreciated!

Are you looking at flatbed work only -- or other freight, as well?

I run a reefer as well, neither seem to have work that nets much beyond the cost of fuel

    Chicagoland has dried up too..
My game plan the last few years was outbound Chicago. Starting to look elsewhere..

Last Friday there was 77 loads to pick from, many double or triple posted, so more like 30, down from 1000's a few months back..

Winter is going to separate the men from the boys..

I've gauged freight by looking out 500 miles from my general area, flatbed only, no restrictions. I've done this at noon, every Wednesday.

June of 21 there would be low 30k posted for flatbed within 500 miles of me.

By August of 21, continuing to May of 22, #'s were pretty much 36-40k, with the highest I ever saw of 44k loads.

By June of 22 #'s had dropped to 28k loads.

June of 23 was around 12k

There were 4700 loads posted within 500 miles of me at noon yesterday.

Independents and small fleets will be closing in record #'s this winter.

Currently the cheapest heavy loads are flying down the road trying to get as many as possible in Canada . Now with fuel rising it won’t be long before the fuel thefts start back up .. in 2008 recession me and two friends filled up drove another 100 miles and went to bed in the morning the guy parked on the outside had empty tanks he only noticed when his webasto heater shut off.. another time I dropped a clean empty at a meat plant in Brandon Manitoba boss called me the next day to give me heck about the empty reefer tank which he had to send someone one to fill . I told him it was full ironically it got robbed again before it was loaded ..

Oh wow very interesting. Do you compile into something like an excel sheet?
I started tracking my numbers very detailed over the past couple years and it's really kept me from running this year. Once you realize the actual cost of running these trucks, it can be quite crippling when rates tank. I love and hate excel for that reason

In this process what window of days do you look at? Current day only, a one week window? Etc

This is definitely fair but as long as it's the same day every week.
Any of us actually searching for work knows that you gotta search early mondays and tuesdays. Seems, here anyways that work dries up as the week goes on then re-cycles the next
