And while your NOT hauling cheap freight, get a fuel surcharge so that you don't have to play these illegal games.

I don't look to come on here and go after noboby but why would anyone want to get crossways the dot man, pay a huge fine and get in teh newspaper if times is tough? IF you don't have a bad dac or worse, you can get on with a hauler and make a check and make out without becoming an outlaw. this all come back to truckers image out here. Miles are down all around but why have the stacks? chrome, fancy shades, and all that that cost money but don't bring it home? I'm not saying the fellow who is panicin on his fuel has a fancy truck but it seems like a man that complains the most has some big note then don't stop putting his home money down or credit card on some fancy [cool dude] stuff that makes him the heroe at the fuel island but just one late pay away from having his truck took by the bank??? Live where you can pay it and do it honest and stay out of trouble. Ever go to a pool hall and see that the biggest loudmouth lookin to lock up a table and play the big man looks around nervous when sombody comes through the door. I aint him and I don't want to be him and if I drive a '91 Ford Ranger in my time it is mine with no note and no worry. They run this economy in the ground hard so now people get crazy. No offense to anybody but this die talk is bad for the industrie.

Just as Mr. Haney said. I have only been checked for dyed fuel once. I asked the DOT man what happens if it is dyed. His response was that they turn it over to DOR and the tax man audits back several years (i forgot the exact years he said)in addition to the fines . As everyone here says, is it really worth it???

Not only are you playing with a state government agency and their taxes........your playing with the Internal Revenue Service for the Federal Road Taxes you aren't paying when you buy off road fuel. The fines and penalties aren't worth it in the long run if you get caught...........the audit will go back a number of years.......the IFTA reports you signed can be used as evidence for perjury charges........do you want to spend time in jail????

The test procedures for the dye only need trace amounts to be detected. I've seen the agents test fuel that LOOKED fine when held up to a light in a clear bottle. If they stopped you to test they're going to test regardless of what it looks like. The testing is getting more prevalent in this area in the last couple of years.

We had a bunch of farmers running dyed fuel in their farm pickups, they got caught. The fine was calculated by taking the odometer reading and then estimated the MPG then they had to pay the tax on ALL of the gallons of fuel that pickup burned, so its not worth it.

Heard the same thing, they assume you've always ran red fuel and back charge you for all miles since you've owned the truck. But hey you saved a little money for a while right? haha!

Level I is the full on check everything insp.
Back in the early '90's we were hauling rooftile into Phx AZ every morning. A local guy got in there and undercut our rates be almost half. We were all loading up one morning and the kid he had driving one of his trucks made the comment he had to go over to the farm to fuel his truck. He went on to say his boss has special fuel that made the truck run better. He also remarked that it was red. He didn't have a clue about dyed fuel. "someone" made a call and that guy was out of our hair shortly after that. We still had a tough time getting the rates back up.
You might get away with it for awhile but it's not worth it. There used to be some stuff you could buy that changed the red feul either yellow or green, I don't remember. It came from England if I remember right.

Level 1 just like I said. Look over every thing they can think of. Only thing he didn't check was logs. Brakes, leaks, tires, suspension, lights, etc. Got his creeper out and went over every thing. Nice guy. Did thorough job and was only there about 20-25 minutes. Spent about 5 minutes entering info into laptop. Current sticker on window will get you waved through a lot of scales for 3 or 4 months.
