I was part of the white Volvo mafia for several months, and the truck I was driving thought it required a parked regen twice a day…. Kinda soured me on def. My old CAT never regens! And it sounds better than any choked up new truck on the highway :D:)

Funny enough finding parts for my 95 W9 powered by a 3406E has been easier than finding parts for brand new trucks. Even through covid I never got stuck waiting for parts while new trucks were frequently waiting weeks and months for parts.

I sold the 2016 I had at 600k miles. It was maintained correctly (DPF cleaned at 220k, DPF replaced at 450k) and the only emission parts not replaced at or close to the intervals in the book were 2 NOx sensors. Both times those were done at my local shop during planned time off.

It was down for a month in Sept of 21 when the def level sensor went out, but that wasn’t a big deal since I already wasn’t planning on working up to the end of the year. I got it out of the shop and worked the month of October and parked it for the rest of the year while waiting for my new truck to come in.

I’ve owned and ran both and I would never entertain the idea of running an old truck ever again unless it was just for fun doing some local stuff. Since 2019 in the two emission trucks I’ve owned I’ve lost roughly 5 weeks due to the truck(s) being in the shop. The 2017 was the def level sensor and it was down a month, the 2022 was an injector and it was down a week. I work roughly 40 or so weeks a year, so neither were a big deal. The trade off for me is being able to park and walk away from the truck when I am home. I don’t have to look at the truck until it’s time to go back to work.
