Drove for 5 years, company driver, mostly flatbed lumber. Looking to purchase an older DD60 pre-emission rig. Found this 98 International 9400, 12.7 dd60, 2.73's with 10spd direct drive trans. 257" wb
Plan on pulling a 48' flatbed often with 46k lbs of lumber. No intentions of running faster than 65 and don't mind pulling hills slowly. Looking for low overhead, cheap to operate, reliable once I've caught up on whatever maintenance has been deferred.
There anything that would be working against me with this truck?
Company driver going O/O Flatbed, International 9400?

Pretty decent trucks. Should turn good. Cheap enough you can put some money into it if needed
-
Do you have cash to purchase the truck?

Great timing !!! .. only thing against you is the current market
-
Agreed. You're doing awesome by choosing an older truck. I've got a 2016 Pete and a 2006 Freightliner. I'm rebuilding the Freightliner because these new trucks are too costly to maintain right now.
Worst part of your decision is the timing, tough market but as long as you keep your overhead low and keep at it you'll do well. -
Thanks for information. I'm aware the market is tough right now. It'll be some time before I quit my company job, still need to track down a flatbed & insurance will be the final big purchase. Likely going to do maintenance, repairs, basic improvements until rates show some signs of improvement. Then I'll be ready to put the pedal down and get trailer, insurance, and hit the road.
CAXPT Thanks this. -
Hell if you're lucky, you can reach out to your current company to see if they can filter work your way as a contractor so you can get up and going.
