you would be surprised (or maybe not) that when i say i go to the range and my club each, once per week, meaning i get in at least 2 days of practice, at about 1.5 hours each day.

at the range, they sometimes have the local PD shoot there to qualify an officer, as they have no range themselves.

sometimes, the lights are turned off, and the police are using flashlights, for "night time" practice

i rarely if ever see any off duty cop(s) there practice, but then i am there very early in the morning.

at my club, we have police, doctors, lawyers, nurses, business people as members.

    in the end..??

the police officers cannot hit the side of a barn, that Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles can SEE...!!!!!!

for the police in that article to spray so many rounds tells me right off, none are proficient in shooting, with a rifle which can be held more steadily than a handgun, at a stationary object.........they were randomly shooting, and to me, that's fact.

the movie and tv police that shoot with pin-point accuracy, just does not apply to the lack of training real life cops get.

this is not, and will not be the first of such shootings, there have been many others.. the hopes of nailing the suspect by this randomly fire spray, failed, especially when other properties were damaged.

in this instance, to me, the cops were just as much to blame using high powered rifles, and maybe perhaps, should turn them in, since they failed at controlling thier aim, and damages.

and there are those, that want to take away our guns, cuz the guns are dangerous..??

    look at the person shooting......

30%. That's the 'hit' average of the entire New York police department. There was a study done and can be found for those that care, but 30% is how well trained New York officers are in shooting.

in my state, we have a magazine ban, of only 10 rounds of ammo.

at the club meeting 2 months ago, the Executive Officer said, he'd be very surprised if any of us took more than 10 rounds to put down a threat.

he knows how some of us shoot.

No, that was every officer who did fire. And one does not fire randomly, since possibly other people may be in the way.
But for everytime a hand, gun or other parts of a perp show, many officers will fire. And not just one, but several in rapid succession... x75
Funny how many here criticize police response, yet rarely ask wtf is wrong with people that they would do such crazy behaviour ? And think that person responding has maybe a half second to figure out if its a life in the balance situation.

i don't criticize all the police actions or responses...but this one went far beyond the normal...it was said on the news, each officer is going to go thru a psych eval in the coming days..

There is a good reason why police are being criticized more and given the benefit of doubt less. Think of how many times in the last 5 years that police have been caught lying about what occurred - not just the big cases that make national news, but all the dash cam videos showing cops lying and acting unprofessional during basic traffic stops.

We've know for 90 years that police use of force diminishes the public's confidence in police - even when that force is justified. Wickersham Report on Police on JSTOR

In this case, there was a long developing siege situation with a person who was unstable and violent. I believe the police when they said they tried to end the situation without violence, but the suspect chose to threaten/fire at police. I have no problem with the police using violence in this situation.

The problem I have is with officers taking pot shots at the building that had ZERO chance of being successful. They had an assault team on site, so why were beat cops firing at all? Guns out? Yes. Clear sight picture? Take the shot. Plinking at a brick building with a 9 mm just because everyone else is firing? Nope.
