Ok, you know those awesome tool boxes you guys often have mounted between the spread axles on your trailer...
Is there any reason why those tool boxes couldn't be mounted on a dry van?
Also, where is a good place to find them? I don't need chrome or polished steel or anything just looking for a couple of good water-tight boxes that will mount on a dry van.
Is there any source out there for good used boxes?
Thanks!
Hey skateboarders, little help please?

I have found boxes on fleabay and also truckntow has new ones..

Coon, you can post links, if you want to. LOL

Water tight is pushing it .... especially if the box is between the axles of a spread
-
Thanks, Coon, I'll check them out.

Well I guess they don't actually have to be completely water tight, but I don't want a lot of standing water in them, either.
On our dry-van, I plan to locate them about three to four feet behind the landing gear so at least they shouldn't have to deal with much tire-spray. ThanksLast edited: Mar 11, 2010

Mud flaps in front and back of the box helps with water. Problem with "Water Tight" is condensation. Have a truck with a Merritt step tool box and it's too tight and everything inside is totally soaked, tools rusted and where it's mounted it get's no spray. If you get one with a good seal drill some holes to allow ventilation.

We have boxes for the fittings between the spreads on our fuel tankers. No much get's in there. If it has to be dry just put it about 2 inches off the bottom and you are OK.

Yeah there is. What do you need tarps for?
The Challenger Thanks this. -
Good lord, I never would have thought of that! That little bit on info right there is worth more than ten times the price I paid to hang out around these here forums. Thanks, guys!
Well if you're going to get all technical on me... I guess we don't actually need the boxes since we don't deal with tarps, Mr. Smarty Pants.
But what you're not taking into account is that we are two old women and a dog who like to stay out for about a month at a time... man do we have a ton of crap that travels with us. For years our tractor has been packed to the gills and now that we will have our own trailer I want to shift some of that crap out of the truck. Maybe then it wouldn't feel quite so much like a sardine can.
And before you suggest we get rid of a bunch of that crap let me repeat the "two old women and a dog" part... obviously that's not going to happen.
