Problem is he's got Budds, so the outer will have to come off to verify the inner.

I wondered about that. Seems you could hit the inner, and if it were loose, it could be tightened, while the outer nut stays put, ( loosening it) Then the outer would need tightened.

This is why i carry my own torque wrench and impact..... About 1 lug in 20 moves usually. That said avoid that shop unless you have zero choice. Its like the manager of that store has you take an IQ test where you gotta put the blocks in the correct hole. However, unless you skip trying to fit them in the holes over directly trying to swallow the blocks instead while also flinging fecees at customers....your not hired.

The one and only time i went there they forgot to put the lugs back on my wheels and had NO air in the tires.... then when i #####ed tried to give me this #### and bull story about how i drove in without lugs and tried to make me pay for a full new set instead of putting my own back on. Also told me it was $10 extra per tire to air them up....dispite having literally just bought 4 new tires.

    Place is a bad joke

Good good the last paragraph is laughably stupid. I’d think I was on some sort of prank show.

Reversing direction on a radial tire will not hurt a thing. That was a myth started up during the Firestone 500 recall during the late 70’s. They tried to blame failures on that practice during the many major law suits they had going on. ALL the mamufacturer recommend crisscross or swapping direction change on tires to flatten and smooth out the choppy heal toe wear they will develop. We swap Michelin and Bridgestone steers side to side and let them run against the sipes to smooth them out when needed. They have directional arrows so they will run arrows backwards.

Milwaukee’s bad boy M18 impact gun can be custom programmed by them to a set torque stop for putting nuts on and still have full reverse torque for removal. Many shoos are doing this because its less tools to work with. Ingersal-Rand has had the same deal with their air guns for about 7 years now but we did handle a recall with them 3 years ago for over torque problems on one 1/2 drive model. The way the air guns work is if the line psi the gun is on is regulated at 90 psi the gun will only torque to 500 max. If the line psi is 120 or higher all bets are off.

I asked our mechanic if he torques lug nuts when the truck tires are changed. He just said no, gave me that "mechanic look" and walked off mumbling to himself.
