I'm not saying you were. But early on it was GM marketing. Chevy was bottom of marketing/funding. They called it the poor man's automobile. Just history.

Still considered cheap I think, at least the older stuff. Go to any car show and see how many die hard ford guys have “cheap to build” GM engines in their cars lol.
If I was that die hard I’d scrounge the corners of the earth for a proper engine. I’m Saving a 259 / 302 just for a future ford project for my dad….Flint1, tramm01, singlescrewshaker and 9 others Thank this. -
Well that or the sbc is superior to any blue oval engine. Lol
Chevy was just marketed as low budget economy back then to compete with Ford.
Did you know the Caddilac motor company was a Henry Ford failure, later to be owned by GM.
Henry Ford deserves credit for manufacturing engineering. He had alot of failures, pride and opinions. Hitler loved him, and had pictures of him on a wall. VW was to be hitlers copy of Ford. Ford had employee investigators that watched employees to makesure you lived the "Ford Motor Company" way of life. Fired you if you didn't. Think coal mine towns. When he was sued for his mandatory company news letter with his political and racial views. He purchase the Dearborn Independent newspaper, or call the Ford international news. This guy wanted to control everyone and be Hitler. Thankfully his pride cause him more issues than it helped him. I'll put chevys in ford's till he comes back and stops me. -

Yea just think, Cadillac was using the V8 engine in 1926, Ford brought out the flat head V8 in 1932. And still many think 1932 was the 1st year for any V8.
Yea I remember reading about his newspaper deal, he was by far a saint.
But he did have a lot of good ideas, gotta give the man credit for that.
I remember dad saying that the GM 6 of early years was a pain in Ford’s side lol, the 4 cylinder ford just didn’t have the same torque so Ford built the V8, then a 6 cylinder in 41 I believe….Flint1, tramm01, singlescrewshaker and 5 others Thank this. -
