There are 1099 trucking companies all over the US. I smell a tax fraud in the making.

It is. Many drivers go 1099 because they have a little more control over where they can go and how long they can run. Also, some of those companies tend to be a little more outlaw. You've got drivers who are ok with the owners going in there and adjusting the elog so they can drive more.

If you go on Craigslist, you will find dozens of companies that are 1099 that don't take escrow and such. You gotta look in the major cities. Look in the St. Louis, Minneapolis, Memphis areas.

There are more drivers with no control then with. Many more.

1099 is nothing but pos companies who avoid taxes. Possibly payroll too.

Perhaps OP had a messed up record. As I always say, that's the lone positive about those companies. You can rehab your career, jeep your skills and experience up, and earn a piece of a paycheck.

And accumulate a tax debt with the IRS and your state if they have an income tax. Making choices to keep life hard.

I mean.....people foul up. We've all made those kind of choices. If that's his story, then kudos to him for trying to fix it.
