If I am correct this can be done two ways by adding or removing the gaskets and removing the cam...correct.............How far can you go if you add or remove the tha gaskets?
-
I think you are talking about the timing. There is an offset key available for the cam gear. That requires cam to be out of the truck and gear pressed off and on. On the cam follower shims or gaskets, more gaskets advance the timing, less makes it go the way you want it to go for more power. You need a special tool that fits in the injector hole and has a couple of dial indicators on it to accurately set the timing. I'm not sure how much it would change by running the thinnest gasket available compared to what you have in there now.
BTW that old guy Bill I mentioned ran with another guy sometimes named Walter who went by Red Dog on the cb. He had a W-900A with an extended hood and a V-8 Cat, I remember the Cummins ran right with him back and forth from Chino CA to Casa Grande AZ hauling that rooftilebeastr123 Thanks this. -
Rorgger that....I'mma see what I can get this Big Cam to do they started the rebuild process yesterday............I price one of the dial indicator tools 500 bucks I might need to invest in one since Big Cams is all I want!

Lower compression yes but do not re tard timing too much, you will loose power and fuel mileage and raise EGTs. Bruce doesn't know what he is talking about..

So you mean to tell me the man that has been building these motors for 30 PLUS HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT?.....mmmmmmhhmmm.....driva I don't know about that one

I would have to side with Bruce....now if you said they were too high price I then could side with you.
Adisiwaya Thanks this. -

If you give more fuel to it, it's advanced again, and you might need to set the timing again. It also depends on at what rpm you want to use it, lower rpm=more re tarded, high rpm=advanced. We use stock 340hp timing in our 1200hp L-10 race engine but it's not used under 2000rpm and it has very quick lifting injector cam.1989 Pete said: ↑So you mean to tell me the man that has been building these motors for 30 PLUS HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT?

I don't understand why Bruce wants to re tard timing when he also says not to cruise under 1700 rpm? Thay also say turning out the fuel screw will wear out your cam, then they raise the fuel pressure by modding the pump which is basicly the same thing, why isn't it wearing out then?Click to expand...Click to expand...
