Hello all
I have a cm870 isx in a 2007 pete 379.
Went to pick up a load Friday ran fine then got loaded took off and power was completely gone. On top of that it sounds terrible as soon as power went away. It will fire up right away but sounds like it's surging some and rattling. Sitting inside truck is bouncing around shaking and what not. When I press on throttle getting puffs of grayish black smoke that I did not notice before this happened. There is 2 to 5 showing on manifold pressure. I have had this truck 4 years and it would always run around 20 to 25 and mechanic told me it was fine when I asked if that was low.
I limped the truck home could get to 65 on glat slightest hill slowed it down. Cleaned all the actuators they looked fine don't really no if they are. Turbo has about 100000 on it. Put a wrench on wastegate it moved without any hang ups.Truck had been running hot idling and pulling grade. I changed tensioner but I don't think it helped can still turn fan although not as much. On to belt and fan clutch next there. Changed fuel filters checked for air through the bleeder at very top closest to cab.
Summary: no boost , truck sounds like it's struggling to get fuel and rattling inside engine and shaky. Puffs of black smoke on throttle. Been overheating on grade and idle. Also forgot to mention that the rpm gauge is bouncing around a little. Turbo spooling up when getting on throttle but no power and not much response. Pyro Temps running at 1100 at times.
Took a few videos but they are telling me they are too large.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Found a boost leak right at turbo first boot up towards cac. Truck still has a bad actuator or bad injector or something. Since the boot was replaced its not as noisy but still sounds like its surging at idle and shaking alot. Mechanic is in a hunting trip. Does anyone know if insite has a way to check for bad injector or do you have to do it through mechanical test via actuators?

is this a variable turbo or does it just have a wastegate?

It has the gate on the outside I took a 10mm and moved it it seemed to be okay not to lose not to tight.

Popped off the valve cover to check everything out. Fired up oil flowing good. With the cover off I didn't hear near the ticking noise I was hearing . Tried the pressure port for air in the system couldn't get any. Looked at all the fuel lines . Since I got boost back took for a spin around the block wanted to die 5 or 6 times. Had to get on throttle quick to keep from dying. Seems like it's struggling for fuel. No mechanic is available in my area for at least two weeks. Can't even get the mobile mechanic to come hook up insite because of hunting season. Although I got some boost back the turbo even though the truck was moving slow was spooling up loud. Inspecting the turbo there appears to be nothing wrong. Would the gear in the fuel pump make a truck act like this ?
