My truck was put in the shop for a lengthy period of time. I was put in a slow 62 mph truck during that period of time.
Coast to coast refrigerated loads. I still made the same money every week with a lot less stress. When my truck was released from the shop, I kept the slow truck.JohnBoy, ducnut, Flat Earth Trucker and 4 others Thank this. -
A lot of it is trip planning..most dont know how to properly trip plan

Oooh, I try to avoid using that much at one time. It would probably attract the attention of government officials and nobody needs that.

Ya know what hurts my brain, Honest TB? Eating ice cream too fast. Along with getting hit in the head, that REALLY hurts my brain. Good thing that's only happened a few times. Now eating ice cream? That happens all the time. I like most kinds of ice cream, how about you? I guess vanilla is about as good as any, but cookie dough really takes the cake for me. Do you see what I did there? Cookie? Cake? Dough? Sometimes I really crack myself up, don't ya think? What's your favorite flavor? Wait.....let me guess.....Neapolitan! Was I right? I remember you and Inga used to go out for ice cream all the time. You would go to the Tastee Freeze, out next to the old 66 motel. I remember you saying you two were going out for ice cream, but then your car would be parked in the motel parking lot. Always thought that strange, but then I figgered that maybe the lot was full, and you parked there. Or maybe you weren't supposed to be buying ice cream. Didn't want to be discovered at Tastee Freeze. You two must have ate LOTS of ice cream, because it would be 3-4 hours, until you returned. But the both of you always had the biggest smiles on your faces. Boy, I sure miss those old days, don't you??Flat Earth Trucker and TB John Thank this.

There is an excellent gelato shop a little more than a mile from my house. It has changed my life. My meeting with Inga were strickly business. You can even ask my accountant, everything was "tax deductible"

Welcome to Trucking Report, in my experience here I have noticed that there is a supermajority of people who post not to answer questions when one is posed but rather to ask questions as to why the question is even being posed in the first place or simply to complain.
For example there is another thread I can think of in which someone is asking about companies with 70+ mph truck governors and you have to go about 50 posts into that thread before anyone actually answers their question. Most of the posts up to that point are people asking questions like, "why do you think you need to drive at/above 70mph?" or "I hate when people drive faster/slower than ___mph!" or some other unhelpful nonsense. I see the same kind of crap in social media or YouTube comment sections all the time now unfortunately.Gearjammin' Penguin, Tall Mike, Jubal Early Times and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've driven trucks capable of 90+ mph and I've driven trucks governed to 65-70 mph. Though driving a fast truck was more tolerable thru states like Texas on I-10 and Kansas on I-70 for the most part I found myself most comfortable cruising around 70-75.
The problem I encountered with working for a company with fast or completely ungoverned trucks is they don't want to hear any excuses why you were late somewhere. Plus you can only go as fast as traffic allows.
The other problem is they will expect you to run 3000+ miles a week. And while alot of drivers will be chomping at the bit for that, other drivers will be looking for a decent mileage rate, benefits and a reasonably consistent weekly mileage (2200-2700).
After awhile you just don't want to kill yourself just to make a paycheck. And you shouldn't have to.Flat Earth Trucker, 48Packard, Bumper and 2 others Thank this. -
Staying on topic is hard for some..

Fine Line is 75mph but you better like running the northeast specifically NYC, dirty Jersey, and Long Island.
Cody Keys was 75mph when I was there. Some trucks were still wide open. Pay isn't great and maintenance is terrible. No benefits either when I left.
S&S Auto is mostly 75mph with a few still wide open. Good people but they do a lot of spot buys which can be erratic as far as keeping steady work. They do train if you've never hauled cars.Blagoje Thanks this.
