Hey @Flint1 got an auctioneer friend of mine looking to get an idea on school bus values. There are approximately 20 "full size" busses. 4 have SCRAP written on the windshield. 4 or 5 are IC(IH) with MaxxForce powerplants and the remainder are Freightliner/Thomas with Cummins ISB's. All are on 11R22.5, most have Michelin XZE2 steer, XDN2 drives and most appear to be better than 75% tread. All have automatics with the shift lever,so assuming Allison 3000 series? No idea on hours/miles as batteries were removed from all of them. Can you give me some idea on what they might bring complete? I would think rebuilders would be interested in engine/transmission on scrap units, maybe diffs. It's an all or nothing bid process, so no picking and choosing btw.

Just went thru this, was looking at a few IC at ritche bros.

Anything with a maxxforce is junk. ICs with hydro brakes from 06-15 have a very expensive electric power brake systems.

    I've seen allison 2000s and 3000s with a lever.
Most buses around here are 2500s (wide ratio).
I've gotten $1000 for every allison core I've ever sold. Allisons are always in demand, they are literally everywhere.

The 14 buses that all sold last week here went for 9500 Canadian. All were ICs, maxxforce, hydro brakes and beat to rat piss. I suspect one of the bigger bus companies bought them all for parts. Of the 14, 8 had screwed motors. Approx 6k hours, 60000km.
The maxxforce 7 v8 is almost unownable, but there is a significant market for engine cores. The local bus dealer parts em out when they are traded in. They don't even try to sell em.
10-14 maxxforce DTs are brutal, and can't really be made better.

ISBs are better, but when they are worn out, thats it. They have a habit of breaking piston rings, scoring cylinders, junking the block.
The older 5.9 isbs are too old for much value, the 6.7s are definitely in demand.

Older buses go for what I call shed prices. Cheeper then building a new shed.

Bus market is weird right now. My last new one was 103k canadian pesos in '20. If I want one now, its 179999. We have a 15 year rule in our contract. Next year is the last year I can use the one I drive.
When I look at Us auctions, the old (less then 08) they seem to go for under 5 k.

Here is a link for last weeks Ritchie's.
    Lots 390-412 were buses.

What a rig this was. 4x4, lifted on 24.5.

Good info, thanks for the reply. I looked on PurpleWave auction site and there was a cab-over up to $10k while two Freightliner's were at $275.00, so I told him somewhere in the middle, lol.

Pretty sure I know exactly where those white buses came from and I bet they've seen some flight time too.
