Hello again.
I’m scheduled to do an out and back run from illinois to south East Tennessee. My truck doesn’t have an electronic log. We do this load once a month. Am I required to use an ELD or can I use a paper log? I’m just curious if they’re going to install and ELD before them but don’t want to bother them before the week starts and am curious now.
thanks

You can run paper
What year is the truck ?Diesel Dave and Me1994 Thank this. -
2017 I believe. Just started with the company, I was totally local before this. I’ll be doing one out and back run with the new company a week. Maybe less.
-
If your going to be doing this run weekly probably they should get a ELD
-
I’m sure they will, they’ve just had me local my first couple weeks. I was just curious if I had to have one. I appreciate the answer.
-
You can run without ELD if you would only need to do a full RODS (Record of Duty Status (Graph log)) 8 days or less in any 30 day period. If you are doing the run weekly you will likely need an ELD. If it's one a month probably not.

I’d do that run monthly. But similar ones weekly.
-
Then you will probably need an ELD. Remember the 8 days in 30? It applies to all runs.tscottme, Me1994 and Diesel Dave Thank this.
-
What are your other runs? Other than this particular trip once a month will you be operating under the short haul exemption?
-
Yes. I would be, with the occasional out and back up to 1 weekly is what they told me. But from what I’m noticing they share those 4-5 runs between the 5 drivers.Long FLD Thanks this.
