I was looking through the local dealers ad and saw this truck
'06 387
C-15 # 450 hp
10spd
3.36
22.5 low pro
374,448 miles
Webasto heater
how do you guys think this truck would pull? I pull a bullrack in the midwest and usually weigh 80-86k loaded and don't get into alot of big hills, mainly flat ground of IA and MN. I used to own a 10spd truck and said I'd never go back, but that truck only had a 370hp motor. They're asking $51,900 for it and it's been on the lot since summer of '09 and it looks to be from a small fleet since they have 3 other 387's indentical to it and a couple of 9400's set up the same too. Also is there anyone who could run the vin to see if any work has been done to it? #6D639779 is all I got off their ad for the vin.
how would this truck do

I drove a 06 379 with a 475 twin turbo turned to a 490 with a 10 spd and 3.36's now i had 24.5lps and that thing would pull its arse off and i pulled a hopper and a reefer so i stayed heavy like you. It was set to 1800 torque too. Hard puller and would run out at 113 at 2150. I wouldnt be scared of this set up

gunner76 Thanks this. -
I hate 10 speeds. So nothing good to say about that. Beyond that...sounds good. If nothing else, ask if they will switch out the trans and add on the difference to the price.

I agree, the 10spd is the only part I'd hate. 13 or 18 is the only way for me. Other than that it sounds good.
Anyone know what the actual price difference there is between the 10spd and say a 13 when ordered new? I know there is almost ZERO difference in weight (like less than 100lbs) -
Is it a convertible 10? You can check if you get the eaton part number. If I remember correctly the double overdrive 10s are actually blocked 13s.

I know I looked at a truck with a 10 speed and they wanted $2k to drop in a reman 18 spd....and they keep the 10. At any rate ditch out the 10 for a 13 or an 18 like Jfaulk99 says. Anything less than a 13 is frickin useless!

$51,900 sounds way too high for a 387 to me.

I don't know a thing about plastic pete's, but here is a link to compare:
