It's Florence KY, I forgot about the other Florences lmao.
Another question, which of these don't do hair follicle tests? I've been clean for over a year but my hair is very long and I've heard horror stories of #### appearing from years prior. I know of Steven's Transport but I've also heard stories of them putting you through CDL training, and then not hiring you, while also giving you a 7k bill. -
I do appreciate the concern, but this is a job I've kinda wanted to do for a while now.
I do question, why is it that some can complete the schooling, but struggle to get hired? Is it due to drug tests or other reasons?201 Thanks this. -
Wanting to do something, and not forced, is a plus. Many go into trucking as a last resort and are surprised it's not what they wanted, $6,000, non-refundable later. We hear that a lot here, can't get hired, and I don't have an answer. It's not drugs anymore, the industry has a 99% negative status, but it's probably the applicants past, that THEY feel is no big deal, but clearly is. We had one person , an ex-felon with 2 reckless driving tickets, can't understand why nobody is hiring them.
Generally speaking, companies that put you through school, will do their best to help you succeed, after all, they have a vested interest in you. You may not make the $90gs/ year they promised you, but it's a good way to learn the biz, and get the schooling paid off. Remember this, 50% of new applicants quit within the 1st 6 months, and 25% of the remaining, don't make it a year, so the numbers are clearly against you. A conservative estimate for salary is about $50-$60gs/year. Specialized trucking can make more, but you will start at the bottom no matter where you go. I like your attitude and I think you can make it. You'll quickly find, it's a job like no other. Best of luck, keep us posted, eh?

Since both carriers mentioned above take you from day one for the CDL itself.....to giving you a CDL job....the thinking here is....if you were good enough to get "in the door"....you will most likely have a job waiting for you after you score that CDL -- unless:
- You flunk another random drug test (and you may indeed get one);
- You start hitting things with a tractor -- either on a practice/training course, and/or while out in traffic with an instructor;
- You do something else during the classroom phase that you shouldn't -- for example: repeatedly show up for classes late -- or show up for class....but not sober.
- You commit an unprovoked criminal offense while in school.
- Your behavior outside of classes otherwise does not reflect the judgement of a true CDL professional while on duty.
- They find you have been less than truthful with your application/paperwork.

About the hair? Others here may later chime in with different answers. But you probably won't like my answer on that one.....
To MAXIMIZE your chances of being hired by either carrier mentioned earlier -- I would suggest you find pictures (on the web) of "Richie Cunningham" on the earlier tv show "Happy Days".....and ask a barber/hairstylist for that same hair style.
Why?
Truck driving is a professional position. Thus -- those earlier-mentioned carriers will want you to look like a sho-nuf serious professional when you are in front of their customers. Thus -- now is NOT the time to be making/showing unique fashion statements.
If you want to truly be "first pick" amongst the driver candidates -- my suggestion would be to LOOK like first pick.
Also: carriers have tightened their hiring criteria of late, because the overall CDL market itself has also tightened up. Super-long hair won't help you there, either.
Also: WDT is a food-grade tanker carrier (milk, and cream) -- so long hair will be problematic there, anyway. Of the two carriers mentioned earlier, that one would be my first pick (milk and dairy are pretty recession-resistant moves).
Past that -- the only way to know for sure about hair-follicle testing is to do & submit a full on-line application for both carriers (which you need to do, anyway) -- and then later ask a recruiter over the phone about it (my info may not be truly up-to-date).

@firemedic2816 --
The original poster may not yet (as of this writing) have quite enough posts/replies on the Forum, to private message you directly.
You will most likely have to PM the OP, yourself.

Well, there you go. This site continually amazes me. Figures, a retired firefighter would probably make the best instructor. They run in when I'd run out!firemedic2816 and 88 Alpha Thank this.
