Upcoming UAW Strike

    Look, I don't want the big three to fail & go out. I just want some reasonable pricing. The wages & benefits that the UAW wants & the stupidly, outrageous profits that the greedy automakers are raking in, is beyond belief. There is no way the consumers can continue to pay these high prices. The UAW & the automakers both need to get off of it & do the right thing.

    I remember reading a post in this thread that said there were thousands of migrants at the border waiting for jobs & they could replace these UAW workers.
    I understand the point but what the automakers need to do is close up shop, rebrand & move to some of the southern states like Miss, Ark & La where the economy is bad, & rebuild. People down here will be glad to work 8 hour shifts for 40 hours a week for $20 an hour with reasonable benefits.
    Detroit aint the only place in the US they can build cars. If they can build new plants in Mexico, they can build new plants in the southern US.

    Closing up shop & going out of business is not going to do anybody any good. But, as it is now, the automakers won't ever be able to go back & reset UAW contracts to previous wages & benefits. It cant go but one way & that's up. It'll never go down.
    The big 3 don't have but 2 choices for the future. Either go out of business due to high costs/prices & sales completely stop...... or rebrand, which will get them out of current union contracts, and start business under another brand in a region where wages are lower/reasonable.
    Will the UAW still invade? Yes but it'll restart the clock at $20 hr.

    So you are saying that corporations are raking in crazy profits, yet they should move south for cheaper labor? That will only increase their profits. What's the point? Just make the shareholders reacher?

    I wonder if there is anything in their contract that says they can be replaced by automation at any given time. I'm surprised with all the automation already on the line that more workers haven't already been replaced.
    I haven't bought a brand new vehicle since 2004 and that was probably the last. Too expensive anymore.

    So, how about if they hire cheaper labor & along with cheaper labor cost, lower their profit margin & sell a pickup truck for $40,000 instead of $75,000?
    As I and the story I posted have discussed, that is the two biggest issues right now driving up vehicle prices. Labor cost & "insane" profits.

    Didn't miss the 700 million bailout ,my point is the taxpayers shouldn't be bailing out any business.If they can't stand on your own two feet,well maybe they should go under.

    Yes we bailed out gm and Daimler look how gm thanked us.Go to your Buick store ,envision built in China, encore built in s.korea that bailout sure helped us out.You think this strike will cripple gm, they build Silverados,and sierras in Mexico,as well as U.S.They would love to have to run more trains down to bring more up here .

    No it's not labor and profits. It's 100% based on what the market will bear, just like everything else in a capitalist society.
    All lowering labor costs does, is increase profits. Evey company charges as much as the market will bear. This is true for McDonalds, as well as GM. If they can sell trucks for $70,000 and still can't keep up with orders, why would they ever sell the same truck for $50,000?

    The only way vehicle prices will go down is if people stop buying the vehicles. Period! Nothing else will drop the price.
    Anything else is UnAmerican, are you not for America? :) (And yes, that's said in jest, but it's simply the way life is in the United States.)

    I mean even you do the same, as an employee or trucking company. Do you ever ask for a lower rate than what you are being offered? Well, why should GM be different?

    You can partially blame the consumer. Most don't seem to realize cars last more than 2 years.

    And I agree with your statements. Its what I already stated in a previous post.
    And I agree with you. Its exactly what I said in my previous post.

    Again, greedy auto makers, the UAW & people who won't stop buying cars.

    But its a widely & heated topic in the country right now with everyone complaining about high car prices... again, because of the greedy automakers, the UAW with their ridiculous demands & (as my mom would say) consumer with more money than sense, who wont stop buy $80,000 vehicles.

    We're all agreeing here. Me, you, & everybody else from New Mexico to New Jersey.
