My night driving is doing good! We usually start out in the dark and end in the dark.
I would rather not drive at night especially when I do not have any clue where I am, which is most of the time...lol My favorite time is right after sunrise. I think because I am relieved that it is now daylight and I can see all around me.
You really can not see the back of the trailer very well when you are making turns. I wish it was lighted better but you can't have everything.
You just have to remember to make wide turns and not go too fast.

I am going on my 6th week away from home. The reason it is so long is because of orientaion, extended training and then the on the road minimum 21 days. If my trainer had lived where I could rent a car, I could have gone home twice now. Others in my class got to go home every weekend.

I choose Maverick because they try to get you home or through the house every weekend. It does not always happen, but they do try.

That is something that you will have to discuss with your wife. Flatbedding is harding work but it does get you home every weekend.

You could get on with other companies as a regional driver and get home every two weeks. You just have to research the different companies and what their policies are.

After a couple of years with a company, you may be able to get a more local job and be home more often.

It is not the most ideal situation if you have a wife and kids. But it is an industry that is hiring, so you just have to decide what is the best situation for you and your family. Best wishes in your journey!

Well I am waiting for my trainer to show up with the truck. We have to be in Iowa on Monday Morning. I am really looking forward to this week getting over so that I can be on my way home. It has been a long haul....not as long as some, but long for me. This is the longest I have been away from my wife and family in over 30 years.
I have learned alot and still have much more to learn. Hopefully I have not forgotten too much as well. It has definitely been an information overload. I was looking over my notes yesterday on all of the securements and I thought, man this is a lot to remember!!!! I know I have a good support group that I can call for info...Maverick has a number you can call 24-7 and they will help you if you are unsure of how to do any securement!
    Until later!
    Jim

Inside your maroon binder in your truck will be diagrams that will show a lot of securement for different type loads. Not every load will be illustrated, but will give you basic loads. This is your permit book. Make your self aware of what it contains. It will have all kinds of info in that book. Directions to terminals etc.

I did seriously consider going to prime. The main reason was that with Maverick, I can get home or through the house most weekends.

I believe I would have had a positive experience if I had gone to prime, but I will tell you this, I am glad I am not going to be with my trainer for 6 months.:biggrin_2552:

Drove from Carrolton Ky to Dubuque Iowa. 518 miles 9.75 hours. Headed into the resturant and they were closed. Got to buy a couple of sandwiches for $1.00 each.
Awh........life on the road! It was nice getting an extra hour of daylight, but it was still dark when we got here. The drop is right down the street. We have to call them from here on the cb and ask when we can deliver...only problem, we were never told which channel to use....details, details, details!:biggrin_2551:
