That’s right— that time off flexibility/ independence was for me the bomb. Loved going from base in FL out to western Canada, Montana, west coast and more plus all sorts of cool places that no other job could cover, but apart from that.. the market, repairs and regs took their toll. Had to call it.

Unless you run some sort of specialized freight, there’s no reason to not be home almost every weekend.
Staying out for weeks or a month(s) at a time destroys the social aspects of your life and family.
I think the biggest lesson to learn though is great times are short and hard times are always longer. Make and save enough in the boom times to subsidize and be picky for the bust times. It’s far easier mentally to bust your butt at $5/mile and stack the cash, than to be worried about money and having to be super trucker at $2/mile to pay the bills.Siinman Thanks this. -
