I don't know. from what I read about some of these companies out there... they may come back and use some other excuse to rid of a driver that tried something like this.. She better not have one little mess up against her, anywhere. Thats just my perception of how they work in this industry.
Changing companies

You may be right, not sure. FMLA is a Federal program though, in other words it's law. If anything was off kilter, one would think the feds would get involved.
Seems from what she posted, she's in good standing with Covenant.
At any rate, it could be what she needs. -
They might put you in another truck before next winter and this one's just about over with. Family is more important than a job but have you asked your father what you should do? Do you really have to take off that long? Can't you just take a week or two and fly to see him? Sorry I called you dude btw I thought you were a guy lol. -
You worked for covenant

Thank you guys, all ideas are very welcome.
I have a lot to consider before making this hard decision.
One or two week trip might not be enough time. I need dental treatment and medical routine tests - they are much cheaper there than here. I don't have medical care in the US because I am very healthy and really prefer to have these things done there. No offense to the medical system in the US.
Thought about waiting till next January to travel. This way would avoid the worst of winter... get more time on the road and postpone my decision.
But don't think it's a good idea to start in a new company during the winter (if it's still winter when I come back).
Having to learn a new way of doing things in a new company, building relation with new dispatcher, hoping he/she will be nice to work with, getting used to a different truck, different equipment, going to different places I am not used to, sitting and waiting for my next load assigment, without having a clue where and when that will be, etc, etc... It almost feels like starting everything all over again...
If I don't change companies this coming summer, will not do it in the winter. Will have to wait another year...
BTW, never mind rubbergearsnextyear, for calling me "dude"....rubbergearsnextyear Thanks this. -

When I started this trucking career, went to Roehl Transport. My training was between Nov and Dec/07 which was a bad idea (winter, holidays), but I had no choice (things forced me to start then).
The beginning was a big impact on me. Adpating to a new life, learning how to do this job the company way. We would always be rushing too much, trailers had problems, schedules were very tight, their trucks were slow... It was very hard to keep up with everything. I didn't like it. Maybe I would not feel that same nowadays, I don't know....
I did not stay at Roehl but after being there for a few weeks, I know I don't want Roehl.
If only one could try a company for a while before making the final decision and not have any negative impact on their employment history.
Recruiters will never tell you all the truth.
I would just like to find something similar to what I have now for a little more pay and something to keep me warm in the truck in the winter and cool in the summer... and not so restrictive so that I can use the truck to run my errands during reset (if you know what I mean). -
try cental refrigerated or decker transport good website or shaffer good luck
Rocks Thanks this. -
One thing to remember is that if you leave for two months you loose all seniority.. You will have to go for the rehire thing, and that means orientation all over again.. I can almost guarantee you will loose that account and get stuck with 48 states.. I had this same problem when I left Swift for JB Hunt, was gone 31 days and had to start from scratch... Good luck, family does come first, but remember you still need to support yourself..
