I didn't think there was that much real estate in front of my windshield till I actually measured it... The 389 is 72.4" from crown to back edge, not including grill bars. So, just over 6 feet. :biggrin_255:

Actually, they extended the hood so they could move the engine forward to make room for the DPF.

    The Challenger Thanks this.

They got the SCR/DPF system really tucked up under those trucks anymore. I worked on one last week and I could access the trans by standing behind the steer tire. I enjoyed that alot. I don't get that chance much anymore.

Funny how everyone else managed to do it without making the hood longer...:biggrin_25517:. BUt hey, its their story, they can tell it however they want...LOL.

You would also think the 3"'s would give you much to work with?

I think it was in the mid 70's Peterbilt had a limited number of extended long hoods. There is a 93 379 around that claims to be the longest hood ever produced, called a Super XL. I saw a video of it and it looks about 6 inches longer than my 05.

Move the engine forward? Why would anyone do that, shouldn't you cram it back under the dash as far as possible so there is no way to work on it? Seems to be what all the other mfg's are doing.:biggrin_2554:

Haha, I think they're slowly trying to phase the cab over back in. So they're slowly pushing the engine back under there. It's got to be such a relief to a mechanic for a truck like a Classic XL, W900L or any long hood Pete to come in for engine work.

You've gotta replace #6 injector in these 2 trucks. Prostar or 379, which truck would you rather work on?:biggrin_25525:
