And Skype or video streaming in general works much better with a wired connection.

Just thought I would mention, I personally met the guy that purchased Idleaire. He has a great attitude about "fixing" the issues and bringing it back.

Plan on him opening a thread here to take suggestions.

I personally like Idleaire. I am not interested in the upfront cost, weights, and maintence of an APU.

Idleaire is'nt bad, ive used it a bit when I was otr but the biggest problem is that it isnt everywhere, and it hogs a lot of valuable parking spots. Yes the upfront costs sucks, and maintenance is'nt to bad. I don't know if every state allows it but I know in MN you get a permit which allows for the extra 500lbs of the A.P.U.

Who are you trying to fool??
IdleAir NEVER told you to leave a parking spot (at a TA) if you weren't using their services. That violated their contract with TA. In fact, your own statement proves this........

I'm sure glad you know what you're talking about. I mean we'd be lost without your sage financial advice.

Well, I guess only time will tell. He shared some numbers with me, and it should only take a few changes to make it profitable again.

The two problems I have with Idleaire are location(I prefer not to go in Petro or TA period.Don't like the big chains)
And I don't like having to nose in/back out anywhere. A pull through arrangement would be nice, but I realize land available rarely allows for this.
My company has become big on APUs, claiming they are paying for themselves rather quickly. Of course they are buying in quantity, probably paying somewhat less than full retail, and doing their own installations.

I'd sure like to see those numbers! Between whatever cost of acquiring the system, and the interest and principal cost, with payroll, energy and maintenance, with partial utilization, what kind of rate per hour will they need, and how will that compare to the operation of an APU?

You named it right there, payroll. One of the biggest cost, and really not needed. Like I said, time will tell.

He also plans to lower the per hour rate.
