I'm thinking about applying with Swift, but I live right in the middle between Syracuse and Jonestown. Instead of relying on a recruiter who may never have even been to either terminal to decide what to do with me, I thought I should figure out where I'd rather run out of and apply for that position up front. I have never been to either terminal. Does anyone have two cents they'd like to share on the subject? Are either of them tiny terminals that driver's don't really run out of (SNI has a few like that)? My ultimate goal would be to end up on a HUB based dedicated account like Target or Sears, but I know I might end up having to run National or Regional for some time before I can get that opportunity so I want to choose carefully. Of coarse I may not end up being able to choose anyway.
Syracuse, NY or Jonestown, PA

I've never been to the Syracuse terminal, but I know Jonestown well since it's my home base. The office staff is great, the shop is horrible. That about sums it up

Seriously, it's not tiny. Not huge, but not tiny. It's very easy to get to off the freeway. And there are plenty of dedicated accounts around Harrisburg. Not sure of the details since I'm not interested in dedicated. I just know they exist because I've helped out on those accounts a time or two.
I get a good response time on the QC, even nights and weekends. They do get a little upset if you call unless it's an emergency. They prefer you to use the QC wherever possible. Just avoid the shop. Unless it's a light or a tire or something simple and easy like that, avoid the shop. -
Jonestown is the better of the two...Jonestown is a hub of sorts, and Syracuse is just a building basically with a shop. Much better attitude at Jonestown, and better conditions for the drivers.

depends on where you are from as to which terminal you will be sent to.
I am out of syracuse and have been to jonestown. Jonestown is bigger and has more facilities. -
I thought the folks at the syracuse terminal were very nice. Swift will decide which terminal you'll do your orientation at & be based out of.

I was planning on moving closer to the terminal, which is why I figured I'd be able to choose. It turns out I live alot closer to the Jonestown terminal than I origionally thought, so I'm sure I would be sent out of there and not even have to move.
I'm having major dental work done over the next 5-6 months so I won't be able to go back OTR until September. I hope Swift's business picks up by then because that's when I'll be applying.
Thanks for all the info ppl.
