1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I currently work for Star Transport out of Morton, Illinois. I have been with them just shy of a year and a half.

I won't go into a long rant or hate fest about my current employer, but I am seeking another carrier to drive for.

I have a wife and a 2 year old son so staying out 4 weeks at a time is no longer an option, especially with low pay.

So with that said, I am in the Nashville area, just a hair under a 1.5yr exp. Looking for more time with the family and would like someone who doesn't expect me to freeze to death in the winter and burn to death in the summer. These are my only 2 things I care about.

I'll run hard, I'll run legal, or make it look very legal. I will do what I need to do to provide for my family and for a company.

I do apparently have 1 preventable that Star has me listed for (tagged a sign) but its not on my DAC or MVR, both are clear as a bell.

I would welcome any advice anyone can provide, and would like to offer my thanks in advance.

    Volunteer Express?

About the only ones in Nashville besides Western that would hire less than three years.Might try Big G but the Marshes are doing something goofy with their finances. They were supposed to sell to Averritt and then announced they would sell it to the "employees". Not sure why Averritt backed out.Averitt may be an alternative.Got a buddy seems to like them in Chattanooga.Downside is you'll have to drive to Cookeville until they transfer you to Nashville yard.

Thanks for the info, I actually interviewed with Averitt but since i have a preventable on record with them, even tho its not on my MVR or DAC, they pretty much said no.

I am expecting a callback tomorrow from LCT out of Florida, may just work hard it there and hang in there to get more experience until I can get home sometime to get my hazmat and doubles/triples.

A lot of local companies hiring doubles/triples, but I don't know that my wife could stand me being home that much.

I got a call from Transport America, decided to give them a try. We'll see how it goes. I've read all the comments here and other places but I am going to go into with a positive attitude and try to make the best of it.

Orientation monday in Grove City, OH.

Good luck Klotz...and I know exactly what you mean with Star. I worked for them for 6 months and my breaking point was 6 weeks straight being out.....all the way in Arkansas. Couldn`t get me home in 6 weeks but soon as I told my dispatcher I was done and needed to bring the truck back...next load was to morton.

What about hauling gas and stuff? Home nightly almost all the time and no matter where you live they have fuel.

Ike transport in Mufreesboro is regional SE. If you want to go flatbed. School+1 year is good with them.
