Are truckers not honking for kids anymore?

Friends, this article made me extremely sad.
Kid does the official arm pump, and gets no response…. Multiple times.
Ain’t no way anyone gonna say there was no safe opportunity, or every single driver missed it.
    We gotta do better.
Speaking for myself, every time i see a kid do that pump, they get the double toot.
It makes me as thrilled as it does them, and I’m smiling ear to ear the rest of my day. I even brag to other drivers that i got the arm pump that day….
    Thoughts?

Read that article earlier. Like finding manual transmissions in trucks the arm pump(and airhorn in response) is becoming a lost art.

How many American born drivers grew up pumping their arm? They don’t understand the thrill of having the power to communicate with the driver.Cause isn’t that what it was?

Our new Hiney’s (Hino) trucks don’t have air horns. Got that castrated toyota prius horn instead with the stupid little button on the side of the steering wheel. I know lots of new big trucks are the same these days. No air horns. What symbol do the kids have to use for that? A silent golf clap?

I hit my horn for them nearly every time. The look on their faces when I do always puts a smile on my face. As far as I'm concerned, doing this is part of the job of trucking.

I always give them a honk, but I rarely get asked, these days kids are strapped into car seats behind tinted windows, with a dvd playing on a little screen in front of them.

About ten years ago, the company I worked for asked if I would drive a company truck in the parade at a nearby town. I went to the store and bought a couple of bags of candy and headed over. Every time I saw kids I asked them "What does the big truck say?" and give a blast of airhorn. The kids LOVED it!!!
    ( The parents....not so much).

I don't know what new big trucks your talking about because I've never seen a BIG TRUCK that didn't have both city (electricity) and highway (air)...

I always blow the air horn for anybody who does the arm pump. Funny thing is, it's usually teenagers and young adults nowadays.
