Hey DirtySide, I have yet to go into Canada. What takes place during the inspection? Are they simply trying to verify paperwork and such, or are they actually doing a full blown search on the truck and all that good stuff?

    Depends...

Sometimes its just the paperwork check. Sometimes its disassemble the truck and a body cavity search! And yeah, it's illegal to carry a gun from the US into Canada.

Pretty darn certain it's illegal to have one on the truck period.

This last time they unloaded the whole trailer and inspected every skid. Of course, they found out all of it was compound chocolate chunks... just like we told them it was when they asked. Mmmm... chocolate...

Its not just the load - its your personal stuff as well as YOU. You're going to be a guest in their country, so you have to abide by their laws. That includes what's in your possession going in. They can be as anal as they want when it comes to searching your stuff, and innocent possession of certain things down here (firearms, reading matter that they might consider pornography) will get your entry refused, if not you in jail.

Better yet, they put YOU through a microscope as well. The Canadian government has direct access to our federal and state databases containing your personal information - stuff that our LEOs would be required to obtain a court order to view. From what I understand, because of some of their laws there are a couple of traffic offenses up their that are viewed as serious crimes - even if you committed them in the US, the Canadians treat them in the same way as if committed on their soil. Trying to enter Canada with any of that on your record can get you into serious trouble at the border. DWI, big speeding tickets, etc.
