    Yes this reminded me of the hover board that Martie McFly had in back to the future, or as the article suggests the vehicles used in Star Wars, however Britain during the Cold war did develop the Hawker Harrier Jet (Harrier Jump jet) able to take off without run ways, thus allowing the Airforce to basically operate out of back yards and back streets if a war ever broke out. It amazing how things there were fiction in movies tend to then become reality in the future, if you've ever read some of Jules Verne's books "Twenty Thousand Leagues under the sea" (1871) he was talking about submarines sailed by Captain Nemo that was electrically powered well before they were invented.
