The regionals finally increased their pay after paying slave wages for decades and both regionals and majors have dropped the college degree requirement to onboard.

That was one of the many stumbling blocks. Another is the cost of tuition. I actually wanted to be a pilot but even back then the tuition and other prerequisites were too high. The average costs from start to finish was anywhere from $100K to $160K ,and that’s was even if you qualified for federal grants and loans. And of course back then the pay at most regional carriers was less than half that, barely enough for some to pay back the loans.

Bud A. and REO6205 Thank this.

someone has to pay the price of the recent UPS contract.

most likely too, UPS will sell off some of those cargo planes...

And then there’s the issue of flight time/hours. After the Colgan Air Flight 3407 accident the flight hours requirements were increased, turning off a lot of potential candidates.

Of course the pandemic exacerbated things even further, with airlines being shutdown (some permanently) and pilots leaving the industry to find other work. Now airlines are struggling to fill the flight decks as lot of older pilots are retiring!

I really doubt a $160,000 a year Feeder Driver is adversely effecting a seasoned Captains $460,000 in total average yearly compensation. UPS Pilots are not in the Teamsters Union, they have their own Union. I don’t know if it’s still the case or not, but years ago FedEx Pilots made more money than UPS Pilots did. 9E32B400-7655-418F-9EED-3FB68A28D9C4.jpeg

by your own posting, you have proven that UPS is paying out tons of money...it's easy to cut the pilots to make payroll for the other employee's

someone has to ultimately pay for the huge raises UPS is going to have to payout.

in other words, UPS is going to go into "belt tightening mode" by ridding themselves of high salaried workers.

The MD-11s (of which UPS has 40 of them) will be phased out by 2026. Some of the older Airbus A300s that aren’t getting an avionics upgrade will be phased out and replaced by Boeing 767s.
