simplyred1962 Betty Boop, One Bodacious Babe!!!

    I am COMPLETELY electronically ignorant.
So, PLEASE bear with my questions.

I am trying to find a program that will allow me to watch television, IN REAL TIME, from my laptop, while MOVING. (I'm just a passenger...my husband is the driver)

    Is there such a program?

And if so, do I need a special adapter, cord, card, etc?

I have a 5 gig air card with Verizon...but to watch the "free" episodes of TV, it eats up all of my "air time".

IF I should find a TV program that I can afford, will it eat up all of my 5 gig's of air time??

    Thanks !

I was going to suggest Hulu until I read the 'real time' part!

Sorry I can't be of much help. I'm "Modern Times deficient" myself.

With today's digital television, picking up over the air broadcasts are enough of a pain when you are sitting still, trying to pull a signal in while in a moving vehicle is going to be dang near impossible. Your best bet is streaming over the internet, but with most of the internet providers limiting PC cards to 5 gigs that's not do-able either. The limitations don't apply to data plans on phones though. I'd get a good phone like the iPhone, the Palm Pre, or something similar. My mother has the Palm Pre with SprintTV and the picture is pretty impressive. They put all the latest TV shows on there, only a day or two after they air on broadcast TV. I have a Samsung Propel on AT&T, and it has all the latest tv shows on it as well, but the screen on my particular phone is pretty bad. More expensive phones look pretty amazing though.

Another thing I do, is I shrank my collection of DVDs, maybe 200 or so, and put them on an external hard drive. I've seen all the movies, but I have enough of them to keep me occupied. I also use the Red Box out of the Walmart Supercenters to rent DVDs. $1 a night, and you can whip into any Walmart and return them the next day.

Correct. But not "from my laptop" as stated in her original post unless the laptop has a TV Tuner connection.

I carry a portable WD 1.5T hard drive with 700 movies or about 550GB on it. If I have time to watch all those movies, I'm driving for the wrong company.

Simplyred1962, If you do find a software program like that, please do share it. I have searched and have not found anything. I did find one website that might interest you>> www.channelchooser.com But it does bring you back to that 5g limit issue.

Like ragold mentioned. The Vue Cube or any SAT tracking dome is about your best bet in the truck. It is the same thing they use in RV's. I considered it at one point but thought the price was too high. Yet, I will go out and drop $1100 on a cpu/processor. go figure......

    Hey Simplyred,
I thought of you when I was surfing for computer parts. I ran across this item, claims you can watch tv on your laptop. I have no idea or validation of it workings. So I would google the item and see if you can find any reviews on it. Maybe someone else on here could chime in with any opinion of their use.>> ASUS TV On PC, Digital (ATSC/QAM), High Gain Y-Type Antenna, WINDOWS7 Compatible

For some odd reason I could not get the link to correctly work, so that's a google product search of it. You can always check a site like zipzoomfly or pricewatch as well.

    Hey, thanks, rookietrucker!!

Haven't been able to get much of anything done about this yet.....not running enough miles to afford the vuQube that I wanted ($1600 for the one that tracks the satellite while hubby is driving! :biggrin_2556:)
So, we have been thinking of dish satellite, but have to get home to get it.

    Thanks!
