CSA2010 has NOTHING to do with any of the health issues.
No matter what some dumb ### examiner or company tells you.
Go with what the FMCSA and DOT says, not rumors.
The Body mass index thing for sleep apneia is something the medical review board has SUGGESTED, it is not a rule, and no rule making has started.
If you are diabetic and have it under control without insulin you are still ok to drive. If you are insulin dependent, then you could not even drive now.
They cannot disqualify the drivers that have these issues and have them medically under control. Otherwise they will be up to there eyeballs in lawsuits filed under the Americans with Disability's Act.
Oh, they want over weight drivers out of trucks. But they will not get it.
Any of the medical things they have to have a rule making on though. NONE of it is in CSA2010. All that 2010 is, is a better system for knowing where to look when auditing company's. In a very basic sense at least.
If you go to get a physical, and they tell you that a sleep test is needed, it should be due to answers you gave on your form.
Not because they think your BMI is high.
If they say you must go get a test due to weight, then go to a real examiner. That one is getting kickbacks from the sleep center.
IT IS NOT A RULE
THEY CANNOT MAKE YOU GO FOR A SLEEP TEST UNLESS YOU ANSWER THE QUESTIONS IN A WAY TO MAKE THEM THINK YOU MAY HAVE APNEA
On the bus driving thing.
A class A covers you for all class B. He would just need to get his passenger endorsement, and anything else the company he goes to needs.
Also remember. For Intra-State, it is very easy to get wavers for medical issues. I know several drivers that drive local that could not drive OTR.
Things like a fake eye etc lol.
Why a strike? The CSA 2010 will cripple trucking.

Is there somewhere that I can find out what the Blood Pressure numbers they are looking at? My BF is maybe 10 pounds overweight and does take meds for BP.
-
I did not list the entire location but check 391.41(b)(6)
http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/medical.htm -
CSA will be talking at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY on 03/25 and 03/26.
MCR6468 Thanks this. -
Hey there:
I have boarder line High Blood PSI. 140 to 141 over 90 is what they are looking for. If it can be controlled with medication you are fine and the only difference is that you must get a DOT physical once per year instead of every 2 years. You can not be rejected over this issue.
Here is a help. I get what is called {White coat syndrome } I walk into a doctors office and my system goes whacky. Blood PSI goes up.
Sit in there and get used to the place for a few before letting them take the Blood PSI . This can and will at times change it by more than you think.
5 points is a lot. NO CAFINE that day. NO SMOKES for a few hours before. NO salt for the day before and day of test. these things will lower the Blood PSI a point or two and help the numbers.
No matter it can almost always be controlled with the right medication.
The actuall numbers are on the long form of the DOT physical , and you can find that on-line. -
Was at the CSA 2010 seminar today at Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY. They said the data CSA will collect from drivers going back 3 years will be only those (tickets, violations) that had roadside inspection, with US DOT # and crash related.

Hi rocks.......so what was your overall impression of CSA2010?

now we have a problem, all of us not just a few the entire industry and the new regs are just part of it the problem started a long time ago its not a new thing at all and i can guarente there will be more comming.
now i began working in this business in 1958 and it was a whole lot different back then, very few rules and regulations not so today, a cop was a cop who rarely gave you a problem and when he did it was because you messed up big time and most of the time it was your fault but he gave you a ticket and you were on your way not so today you have to get a lecture along with the ticket. TRHAT IS NOT THE JOB OF A COP.
we didnt have as many scales to worry about either and when you crossed one if your weight was legal you went on thrue , not today you have super coops every where big old fancy coops witrh all the lights you can see them for miles. who do you think payed for that fancy coop? the truck driver thats who, your nothing but an ATM machine they take money when they feel the need and they dont have to have a reason if they dont have one they create one, you think thats wright? i think not .
think about it, evey year the goverment comes out with a new tax, then the state comes out with another one to match and this is every year and it just keeps on, why? because they dont care all they see is money its called greed and this business has long been forgotten your just another dirty word. why? becaue its what they want we dont count for much anymore. it wasent always that way.
now i no that there are a lot of new drivers out there and i really have no problem with that every one has to learn but you cant learn to handel a truck weighing 80.000 lbs from a book and you cant learn from a ticket book, or a log book or a smart mouth cop , or a new law , or a cluster of regulations but you get more of them every year, why? MONEY thats why and they take plenty every day.WHY? because they can thats why.
we are all so caught up in our own problems that we cant see the forest for the trees. when a DOT COP takes pleasure in writing you a ticket and taking your money that you worked hard for or worse puts you in jail for a frivelous ticket depriving you of your freedom the most important thing you have and he takes pride in that well there is somthing wrong with that picture , why does he do it ? because he can thats why. and it gets worse every year and continues to do so.
when the goverment passes down a law or a new regulation there copyied by each and every state and some wonder why we cant make any money, i wonder why.
i ran across a driver a couple of weeks ago sitting on a curb eating his dinner which was veanna sauges and crackers i made a comment that, that was a helluva dinner he said that was all he had he was about broke, i bought him dinner, now this driver had his own truck and trailer it was an old rig but it was his and he was trying to make it but he had sent most of his money home to his family who was in need , now this driver gets bad mouthed because of his old truck, its not new. since when do we bad mouth another driver because he cant afford a new ruck now that is sad but it happens every day across this country drivers judging a man for the amout of money he has somthing wrong with that picture .
when i started driving it was because i had no place to live no job and no money and at the tender age of 14 that is not a fun thing to go thrue a couple of drivers helped me out and got me started a year later i had my own truck it was an old truck but like this driver it was mine and i was #### proud of it and i made good money with it, no drivers license, in fact no tag but by god with the help of thos driver i made it i wonder if that would happen to day , i doubt it.
back then we were independent and we drove for that reason along with the freedom to do as we pleased and go where we chose to go and we didnt have all the mickey mouse rules that we have today. qwhy do we have all those regs, well aparently because we like them we sure as hell dont do anything about them we just take and take and keep on taking.
now at this day and time all these BS rules dont affect me much my carreer is about over and my equipment is mine and i still do it my way and will continue to do so in spite od the DOT and the goverment they havent stopped me yet and they wont , o they cost me a little money now and then but its just another tax i have to pay for the privalage of working, i run a lot at night which id a good thing yeah thats wright im an old outlaw but i still do it my way i dont answer to no one .
i had a DOT cop tell me i was going to lose my license and my rely was simple, i didnt have the #### thing when i started this business and if you take it it wont stop me now andill contunue to turn and burn.
its hard for me to undrstand why all of you seem to like the way things are today , you must none of you are willing to do a #### thing about you just tag along and let big brother lead you down the primrose path, when will enough be enough?
and now everyone is worried about the new reguations, well it aint nothing new its just the same old thing that happens every year jus a new package another path for you to follow big brother down.
and here is a flash for you it will only stop when you stop it as long as the goverment thinks you like it they will keep thinking of ways to take your money , and why not you got plenty of money you can afford it , WRIGHT.
best of luck to all, your going to need it . southernpride
