We are a new authority with a 16' box truck that is paid for. Due to being MC and having a box truck, we realize that it is very hard to get loads without at least a 26' with a lift gate. We would like to rent a truck temporarily, but want to remain under our own authority. How does that work through the DOT?

Why would you go through the Dot to rent a truck?
First clear the use of the rental with the company you rent from, then just get magnetic signs made with your name and numbers on it, put them on the door, have your paperwork with you like cargo insurance and make sure your driver has a class b if it is over 26k.
I don’t see a means to make a profit with a rental by the way.Gridaxe5588 and Lonesome Thank this. -

I was looking at trucks on this website, they have short and long term rentals.Dont know if you could get a decent deal there or not though. -
Many trucks are using aluminum doors, check if magnets will work before you pay for magnetic signs. My last employer bought a few sets of magnetic signs for their new KW T680 tractors and the whole cab was aluminum sitting on a steel frame. The signs were duct taped to the truck doors until he found adhesive signs to replace them.Accidental Trucker Thanks this.

Even my 2001 Cornbinder had aluminum doors.
As far as making money with a rental, my son is renting one for about six months until his new one gets built in January, and doing just fine with it.tscottme Thanks this.
