It occurs to me that the government requires licenses. No, this didn't come to me in a vision, I didn't just awaken to a new enlightenment and I wasn't born yesterday. Why should "unskilled labor" require a license? Why license commercial drivers at all? Why do we license doctors, lawyers, Realtors, etc.?

To hold them accountable for their actions in practice...
JustSonny and Working Class Patriot Thank this. -
I held a real estate appraiser's liscense. It was a very hard test.
You really want to trust some shmuck off the street to value your home?
It all comes down to an accepted level of training and accountability.JustSonny and The Challenger Thank this. -
Yes, and those that practice their professions professionally reap the rewards and respect for doing a job well. They hold lives, fortunes and families in their capable hands. Kinda like the hands of a licensed commercial truck driver, huh? An awesome responsibility. Saving lives, families and fortunes day in and day out through practiced skill and devoted service. Wake up and pay up, folks!truckerdave1970 Thanks this.

I think their are only 3 jobs that don't require a license (which in turn requires a proficiency test). Fast food, congress, and president.
The Challenger, misterG and JustSonny Thank this. -
Heck to operate a boat you need to have a certificate and a little plastic thing that says you attended the course and took the 40 question long test. All politics is drama and rumor spreading 101. Last I heard there was no license for that.

I hold a paramedic license.
You want just anyone to try to help when you need it?JustSonny and Working Class Patriot Thank this. -
Nope, I sure don't! Paramedics have saved my butt twice. By the same token, I don't want just anybody driving a 40 ton road weapon. I want someone who makes enough $$ to want to keep his/her job....someone who will abide by the rules and truly cares about the human beings he/she shares the highway with. Pay 'em, pay 'em good!
