Here's a perfect example of how they really aren't that expensive in the used market. You can't even get a 2012 diesel pusher motorhome for that much these days.

Don't buy this one though.
D16 - baddddd.
2012 emissions truck - baddddd.
No mileage listed or other questions any driver would ask are answered either.
If you don't have Facebook it's a 2012 ARI super condo Volvo D16 in vanilla.

The big issue I have right now, is I don’t want to be on the road all the time. I recently started doing local runs, Detroit to Holland and back, weekends only. The pay is decent, but not enough for me to get my own place. During the week, when I’m not working, I lead a very active lifestyle. Three-mile runs and gym in the mornings, then I train Muay Thai/kickboxing around 4pm. Not ideal for a daytime job. Nights, maybe. But the Muay Thai training is so I can actually become a fighter, not just some hobby.
I also refuse to go back to doing anything outside of trucking, as I’ll be taking a massive pay cut in that case. Buying a truck, I’d rather something I can live in full-time, and treat like having my own place. I can’t stand the idea of making payments on a truck, AND a house/apartment. Makes zero sense to me to do that.
I guess I’m just trying to figure out what would make the most sense in my situation, and wanting people with some experience in driving trucks with larger sleepers, to explain their day-to-day routines and whether or not they use their trucks for both recreation and work. Whether it’s a viable option, etc. Hell, I don’t even know if what I’m saying really makes any sense. ♂️NightWind, FullMetalJacket, loudtom and 1 other person Thank this. -

Lots of people in your situation. You're right, it's a hard call especially if you are single. There is no good answer except whatever works for you. For me, I'd probably buy an inexpensive camper and keep it somewhere for off time. I don't want to live in a truck all the time because it limits where you can go and what you can do. Your only parking option with one of those beasts is your own property or truck stops. It would get old trying to skirt the security guards parking that thing anywhere else for long.Last edited: Nov 26, 2023

Is there any way to store your 'grey' water (from the shower and sink) to use to flush the toilet? Also would cut down a bit on your sewage.blairandgretchen Thanks this.

I would probably just find a regular place to stay. If the truck needs to go into the shop, it could really mess with your living arrangements. At least with a house, you can take an ice bath after a workout to help recovery. It will be easier to get uninterrupted sleep without the truck stop distractions at any hour of the night. Your training potential really is limited by staying in a truck. If you want to be competitive, you are going to want every advantage you can get.

It would stink worse than the toilet already does. Gray water in a camper stinks, trust me.Feedman, Albertaflatbed and blairandgretchen Thank this.

Well there are a lot of differences. One is weight depending on your truck and sleeper size. (mine is 156"). As stated your limited on the amount of water you carry. I have two tanks and can carry 94 gallon. These trucks are expensive but the benefits outweigh the cost in my opinion. Your not limited to stopping only at truck stops or rest areas. You will eat more healthy and save a ton of money doing it. I average around $200 per trip for food and I'm out around 3 weeks at a time.
As far as freight you will not haul general Freight it's too heavy usually. Most of us with big sleepers haul specialized freight. I can safely scale 36K full of food water fuel Def and all my other junk. Will a big sleeper truck make you more money? The answer is no but it will make you more comfortable and you can save money.Feedman, Vampire, FullMetalJacket and 6 others Thank this. -
Keep your weekend gig. But get a different job in the week. Even wait tables.
