So what's the problem?

 

I effing hate RXO these days. They used to be dang good! Some of their runs still are. But, I almost always forget to turn on tracking. Nobody calls, dispatch doesn't tell me, I forget. Once I did for RXO. The load was not activated for me to press buttons, so I ran it anyway while leaving the tracker on the whole time. They never tracked. Makes me wonder if they deducted that fee anyway.

There is a common entry on these ratecons that every broker seems to use: carrier will notify brokers of any detention before it begins. BEFORE. How are we supposed to know that until we're a couple of minutes away or already into it? Sometimes I nap when the shipper/receiver will call when their done. If it takes 4 hours and I don't know that until they call to wake me, no dentention is given? That's crap.

 

What I do is I send out three different emails:

1- When I arrive at a shipper/receiver, telling them my arrival time, and that detention will begin to accrue TWO hours from the appointment time, which is also noted. I also state that the first two hours of wait time are free, and then I state the detention rates.

2- One hour AFTER appointment time, restating the times in the previous emails, and that detention will begin to accrue in ONE hour.

3- Two hours AFTER appointment time, restating the times in the previous emails, and that detention has BEGUN to accrue. I then state the rates.

These are all canned emails that I have saved, so I don't have to type every time.

 

For my brokerage, if there is pre-detention notification required on the rate-con, it's because that specific customer has the exact same requirement for us. So when you send us the notification we send a note the customer, otherwise they won't pay the detention.

 

This is a great idea.

 

Yeah, you'd be surprised how many times the broker will get off his arse and phone the shipper or receiver to see what the hell is going on after receiving these emails. I always cc myself just in case they try the old, "we didn't get your email" tactic.

 

After the Christmas parade the other day I parked my Oliver tractor and went to talk to a guy who works at the steel plant I use to haul from, but got blackballed because I wouldn’t cross the picket line.

During our conversation he told me that a driver from one of the companies that crossed the line, was taken out in handcuffs a few days prior.

Said the guy was on his flatbed in his bloomers trying to chain the load down and had no idea where he even was lol.

You mentioned shorts and I thought of that….

 

Rather simple really just comply with everything they request, and it won't cost you a penny heh heh.

 

Can't make that up, would have paid to see that. That is funny.

 

RXO and GXO are spinoffs of XPO. Basically, they broke apart the company. It's likely easier for them to deal, frankly, in case they have to sell the brokerage (RXO) or the warehouse system (GXO) OR the trucking entity (XPO) separately. XPO is having issues, but the other parts are profitable. Best to not allow one to drag the others down, I guess.
