Hello! my future fellow drivers. I will be starting at sage in fort pierce fl march 15.they are really pushing crst for some reason.I dont want to drive teams but being way down here my options are limited.I live in Port St Lucie. If i lived in orlando it would be different. My school is paid for by workforce so i dont have to sign contracts.crst is offering 22 cents per mile. If you ask me that stinks. I know that i am new,but can't i do better than that ? Where can i go ? Iam 47 and not stupid, I have been a carpenter all my life. Now it's time for a change I was thinking of becoming a brain surgeon but i don't have time for that!! haha. Any advice is welcome. How is sage compared to the other schools? I picked them because of the one student per instrusctor in the truck.I also checked out the cdl school in lake worth, miami and did not like them. THANKS for you're input.......:biggrin_25521:

Ask your recruiter at Sage to tell you what CRST's SafeStat scores are and what CRST's ISS-D Recommendation is. Welcome to the forum Jas!

Jas, I'm a wannabe like you. I've been around this forum for about 5 months. One of the big topics of conversation is something called CSA 2010. It's a new program being initiated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (an agency of the Dept of Transportation). There's a lot to be learned about it, CSA 2010, that is. It will be a part of our lives when we wannabes get on the road. I'll come back and edit this post and leave some links that I've found helpful. It doesn't take a lot of time to get familiar with what CSA 2010 is all about. It's worth your time to learn the basics.

    http://csa2010.fmcsa.dot.gov/FAQs.aspx

SafeStat scores are an indication of carriers' safety performance. The higher the scores, the worse the carrier's performance. SafeStat scores will soon be replaced by what are called BASIC scores (CSA 2010).

This will get you to CRST's SafeStat scores: http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SafeStat/CarrierOverview.asp?DOT=105790

An ISS-D Recommendation is used by safety enforcement officers to determine which carriers need to be inspected more frequently because of poor safety performance. ISS-D will remain in place. CSA 2010 is not replacing it with anything.

    http://ai.volpe.dot.gov/SafeStat/iss.asp?ais=&dot=105790&WhichForm=

Jas, if you read up on this CSA 2010 thing, don't let it overwhelm you. I've read a good bit about it simply because I have the time to do it right now. Just keep this in mind: Make safety a very high priority. Choose a carrier that has a good safety record.

As I said, I'll be editing this post to give you some links. There's a way to do multiple links at one time, I just don't know how. Good luck!

Oh, don't worry. There are some good, solid carriers. You didn't mention where you live. The guys and gals here will be able to help you more if you give your location on your profile. I've got a kinda smart ### location listed on mine right now but the drivers I look to for guidance know I'm in Mississippi.

Most carriers won't talk to you if they don't run freight through your area. Take your time and find the ones that do or you can post a question in the "Questions from New Drivers" sub-forum and ask who knows which carriers go through your area. This is particularly important if you want reasonable hometime. Oh, by the way, hometime is often hard to come by when you are a new driver.

Just wondering if the school's financial or loan department
cut through the red tape for ya. Thanks and good luck, JC

their inspection rating is 94 out of 100... not good. (the higher the number the worse it is)

meaning you'll likely get pulled for inspection at just about all the scales you run through.

Thanks for all ur info fella's. PSJCO1 The school did not help me. I went through wia myself. I did not ask for there help so i don't know if they could. You can call Ron at 772-462-4255 or toll free 866-832-7243. I hope they can help. As far as me , I am past the first week. I got my permit the 2nd day.
By the fifth day i was straight line backing and on saturday i was offset backing.Next week it's alley docking and parelel parking. From reading all these forums and talking with everybody i can , the best tool you could have for being a trucker is a positive attitude and don't let the bs on here get you down.GOOD LUCK to all you future truckers and be safe and profesional.

AS far as crst , i hope not to go there as i wan't to drive solo. I live 2 hours south of orlando fl. And yes it will be hard to find the compnay that i want.
