cooking in the truck

you can also cook potatoes and simmilar non dripping foods on top of the engine block.

 

I cook in my truck,I open the vents and roll down my windows a little and fire up my little gas cook stove
One week i only spent about 20 bucks on food or drinks and another week i did not spend a dime on drinks or food..I bring instant coffee,tea,hot chocolate,grits,taters and many other things,and i eat pretty good on the road

 

My husband has a microwave, fridge, crockpot, george forman, and lunchbox cookie thing. When I am home and not with him, I freeze him leftovers..chili,lasagne,etc. Then he has meals on the road.

I also buy him groceries and have them ready for him when he comes home for the truck. One of my fave meals on the truck I have found is the microwaved brown rice with a can tuna, some soy sauce and season salt. Its a tasty little lunch for me.

He likes to have micro rice, soups,chef boy, etc. things like that. He does have a 2000 watt inverter with a on/off switch.

 

Okay...which would you choose? The Max Burton or the RoadPro? They both have excellent reviews at Amazon.com.

 

I've had the older version of this cooler for the last ten years. It still works, but it's showing it's age and doesn't cool like it used to. I see this new one has a different motor than my old one. The thing about these thermo-electric coolers, is that they are designed for week-end camping trips, not the 24 hour use that we put it through. As a result. The motor needs replaced once, sometimes twice a year. No big deal, because you can pick up a motor (for my old one) at just about any TA. This new one though, with the bigger motor housing..is the motor inside the same part? If the motor can't be replaced, it's not worth buying, because you'll end up tossing it away in a year.

 

My experience: 12 volt appliances that heat up will only last 6 months, maybe a year at most. After heating and cooling so many times, the wiring inside becomes brittle and snaps. You can cut the bad wire out and rewire it, but eventually the heating elements inside give out as well. It really doesn't matter who makes them. A ten dollar Crockpot from Wal-mart plugged into a 400 watt inverter plugged into your lighter socket will do anything the Burton stove will do. The Crockpot will last forever. The inverter a few years.

About the only thing Burton and Roadpro makes is a plastic thing shaped like a thermos that plugs in, and has a heating element coming up through the bottom. This thing will heat water almost as fast as a microwave, so it's great for soups and coffee. I've even heated up hot dogs in it. I can usually get a year out of one of those.

 

Or a good sun baked armadillo carcus off of some farm road in Texas goes a long way.. With some blue cheese dressing and a loaf of bunny bread

 

I use our crockpot more then anything. Making ham for easter tomm.

 

Install a refrigerator and about a 1500 watt power inverter. Got one from home depot and I kept chicken legs,pork chops,tortillas, fruit ect..in that thing. I also used an electric eye for my eggs and bacon in the morning..or throw some chicken in rice in a crock pot before you shut it down.. It beats that truck stop food that's for sure!

 

I used a Microwave powered off of my 2200 watt Inverter, but it seem to take to long to heat food, So i have been using the Lunch box heater 12 volt, If I have to replace it every 6 months, it won't matter, It still saves over eating out all the time.
