Also watch if you have any PETS in the truck , need up to date medical certificates from the VET and BIRDS are a real NO NO.
Do not try being a smart ### their jails are not IGLOOS , and yes they have paved roads , running water and the INTERNET.
All ?'s I have heard asked regarding Canada

I havent been in a truck yet... I went to Vancouver once with my sister.
Canadian border gaurds were very nice.
US gaurds... total A-holes... Both times we crossed.
Ive crossed half a dozen borders in Europe... US gaurds rank the lowest in friendliness and class... no manners at all.
In my experiance I have no problem answering any question or jumping any hoops to get through during the process... Their attitude and their demeanor reflected poorly on our country.DirtySideDown Thanks this. -
Anyway, from what I've read and been told the only issue in the US is complying with state and local laws.
Like I said though, I do no carry one in the truck anyway. But I DO have a state-issued Permit to Carry a gun, which comes up when LE does a check on your ID. I've read on other forums that having a permit will get a Canadian microscope stuck up your ***...
I choose not to deal with that sort of nonsense simply because I choose to exercise my rights as a US citizen. -
And Yes.... I've crossed many times as a trucker and a private citizen. The US guards are 99% ***holes!
The Canucks are far more friendly and professional.DirtySideDown Thanks this. -
I've been to Canada in my 4-wheeler, just not in a truck. And in my 4-wheeler, I didn't go real far into the country. I had the same experience. Canadian guards were friendly. Why are you crossing, who is with you, when are you coming back, etc. US guards? Jerks. Treated like I was an everyday drug runner.
It's all a power thing. Most regular cops have the same attitude. They have to "control" the situation and make you uncomfortable to try and trip you up if you're hiding something. The mentality is anybody at anytime could pull a gun, so always be in control and intimidate. I understand this mentality. I'm not saying they all have to be Officer Friendly, but a little mutual respect wouldn't hurt.DirtySideDown Thanks this. -
I have crossed into Canada in a POV, on a bus, and in a truck twice, and not once have I had a problem with a border guard on either side of the border. I've only even had the inside of my truck looked at one in Woodstock, NB just north of Easton, ME. My co-driver told the border guard that he had never been arrested, and there was one on his record, and an offense that kept him out of Canada at that, so the very cute border guard searched my truck for maybe 90 seconds, and that was it.

Yep Truckermike... they have docks that they make you back up to, and they unload your trailer. They also go through the cab and even raise the hood and poke around... for some reason. -
so will prime not hire you if you cannot drive a cmv in canada, or do they just not send you there if you cant go?
thx -
I have done close to probably 700 crossing in / out of Canada
as others posted more HASSLE coming back to USA then ever going into CanadaDirtySideDown Thanks this. -
I'm not sure if the things that prevent you from being able to drive a CMV in Canada will disqualify you from gettin on at Prime or not. I would suggest a quick call to recruiting and ask them.Last edited: Mar 27, 2010
