Hello and greetings, I am a 29 year old man who is looking to change careers from my current dead-end job to a truck driver. When I was younger 19/20 years old I got arrested twice for misdemeanor DUI. I do have an at fault accident from 2019 (was not ticketed). I have not had a drink in almost 9 years. I have had my drivers license restored for 6 years now with no other issues since 2019. I am seriously considering leaving my job in the spring to join a mega carrier CDL training school. I like the CFI program for some reason, but I don't know if I can be accepted due to my past. If anyone has any insight or info please pass it along thanks.
Can I become a truck driver with 2 DUI's

I worked with a guy that had 2 owi's and had his cdl. Best bet is to call some potential companies and talk with them. @Chinatown usually says apply then call.
Good on you for realizing there was a problem and quitting drinking. Had my own issues with alcohol when I was younger. Sober since 2009. Jim Beam gives horrible advice.tscottme, nextgentrucker, Speedy356 and 3 others Thank this. -
Most companies go back 5 years so anything older than that shouldn't be an issue. Many companies have their minimum driver requirements listed online so you can verify before beginning the application process.
tscottme, want2changecareers and Chinatown Thank this. -
The best advice I can give you is to apply. You won't know for 100% sure until you do. Be very careful and answer ONLY the questions asked and DO NOT volunteer information not asked for. @Chinatown is going to come in here and tell you to apply apply apply. I will join him and say the same thing. Just be ready to have a plan B and a plan C if CFI says no!want2changecareers and Chinatown Thank this.

Looks like the last DUI is about 10 years old.
Some companies say, "No DUI in a lifetime:
Some say, "No DUI within a defined period of time such as 5 yrs. or 7 yrs. etc."
As @Moose1958 posted, don't give information on applications that isn't asked for. A background check will still show the DUI's, but don't put them on job applications if not required.
Have you had a DUI within the last 7 years? The answer is "NO"
Apply with CFI and see what happens.
You can also attend a private cdl school through your states WIOA Program and that's free to you; no cost to you.
Where is your location? State & nearest city/town?NightWind, tscottme, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this. -
CFI is not the right company. Google DUI and misdemeanor trucking companies that hire. CFI is not one. CRST, SWIFT, Western Express.. you have to crawl before you walk and roll on that highway. You need to ride with a trucker before you make this drastic transition. You don't know that you will not be home every night only for two or three days every other week.. for life. You sit all day drive all day and that trailer you hate to hook up and want to bobtail.. that's your bread and butter.want2changecareers and lual Thank this.

CAUTION: Truck driving is not a job -- it's also a LIFESTYLE.

You need 3 more to meet the requirements
bryan21384 Thanks this. -
That’s old school, the ole 7-1 days off ratio. Most drivers now demand 10 days home monthly. If they don’t get it, they go elsewhere.

Thanks for that info. I am a single guy no kids no gf/wife I am ready to be out on the road for weeks/months at a time.
